Puff pastry with brie, thyme, toasted walnuts and a drizzle of honey. These baked brie puff pastry swirls are easy to make and are amazing appetizers.
Hi! This is Andrea from Cooking with a Wallflower, and I’m back this month on Ask Anna to share with you a brand new recipe just in time for the holidays.
The holidays are looking a little different this year. And as much as I wish we could host holiday parties and get together for brunch, it’s going to have to wait a little longer. But that doesn’t mean that I want to cut out all the holiday eating. I still want all the appetizers and desserts that I would normally make and indulge in. Just in smaller batches this year since it’s a little harder to share this year.
If you’re a fan of brie, then this is definitely a must make appetizer. One sheet of puff pastry with melted butter, cubes of brie, and thyme leaves. The puff pastry sheet is then rolled up tightly and then sliced into 16 pieces. These puff pastry swirls are then baked for about 15-20 minutes until they’re golden brown. The brie will have melted. Some of it will have pooled out onto the baking sheet and become cheese crisp. Which is also fun to eat.
Once the baked brie puff pastry swirls come out of the oven, add toasted walnuts, drizzle honey on top, and garnish with sprigs of fresh thyme. These little puff pastry swirls are delicious, simple to make, and amazing appetizers to share with family for the holiday season.
Preheat the oven to 400F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside for now.
Spread out a thawed but cold puff pastry sheet on the counter. Brush melted salted butter all over the puff pastry sheet. Add the cubed brie evenly on the puff pastry sheet. Sprinkle thyme leaves from one sprig all over.
Then on one end, roll the puff pastry sheet with brie tightly to the other side.
Cut the puff pastry roll into 16 pieces.
In a small bowl, whisk together an egg with milk until to make the egg wash. Brush the egg wash all over each of the puff pastry swirls. This will help the puff pastries turn a golden brown.
Bake the puff pastry swirls for about 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
Remove the baking sheet from the oven and allow the puff pastries to cool for a few minutes.
Top with chopped toasted walnuts and drizzle with honey.
Serve the baked brie puff pastry swirls warm.
Enjoy!
