If you follow me on Instagram you might have noticed I’ve been doing some redecorating in my office. My massive, and ugly, built-in bookshelves have been ugly and unorganized for long enough. Ever since moving in (a year and a half ago) my office has been a catch-all room for our many projects. So as a part of 15 ways to get organized for less than $15, I thought I’d work on organizing my bookshelves.
I discovered last year that Walmart has lots of super cute baskets at very affordable prices, and when I found these chalkboard baskets, for less than $7.50, I knew they’d be perfect for hiding organizing my office stuff on my bookshelves.
At less than $7.50 you can buy 2 of them and stay under our $15 budget! However I have a lot of shelf space that needed to be taken up so I bought 6 of them, but 6 baskets for less than $50 is a steal!
The first thing I needed to get under control was my fabric stash. I’ve had too many unused fabric scraps for too long so I sorted through them, sold a bunch on Facebook, then folded the rest and stored them in one of my new baskets.
I also have a bunch of loose pictures from back in the “olden days” when we didn’t have digital photography that I needed to do something with. They all hold so many memories and I didn’t want to throw them away, so I used one of the baskets to hide organize them on my bookshelf.
I know someday I should scan them all into the computer but for now I like having the hard copies that I can flip through when I need a good laugh. 🙂
In another basket I organized all my IKEA spice jars that hold odd and end craft items. I used to have them hanging on the wall in my other office but since we moved into this house they’ve just been sitting on the shelf, totally unorganized.
I like that they are still easy to get to, but that you don’t actually see them sitting on the shelf, looking cluttered.
I also used the chalkboard baskets to hide Malea’s job money buckets, a few office supplies and some work reference books.
I love the way the baskets look on my newly painted shelves and I love that all my stuff is FINALLY organized!

Love the way that you have these set up. The look so functional and practical. I seen them at my Wal-mart but they didn’t have a tag on them. I love bins and baskets. However, my hubby is the type of person to get upset with too much stuff sitting out and in eye’s view.

I am an ocd organizer..these baskets make me so very happy…I can not stress how important it is to be organized..its just locating just one area to start with that is my problem. These baskets are a great way to start on re-organizing the closet of clutter..aka the craft room supplies.

The prices were even better, at $7+ for a good size of 13 inches by 10, what a deal. The second thing I noticed after the cool looking decorative bin, was your dark shelves and they really make all the other items pop to be noticed so nicely. I’m reorganizing my Kitchen in the retro theme and had hoped to find some decorative bins as you used, but hoped for galvanized steel options. And I see that Walmart has those as well in the Better Homes and Gardens choices, I love them. So that’s what I’d get, and some labels as well to use on them. Oh, now I posted the comment before saying what I would use the money for. I would use them for containers and probably what you would consider funny – but I would also use they for Ziplock bags! Yes, weird – but we don’t have ziplock bags in Denmark, so that is definitely something that I’m stocking up on when I’m going to the US this summer.
