It has been a VERY long time since I wrote an adoption update. This month our daughter turned 17, yep, that’s right, I have a 17 year old (yikes!). She asked me to make a cake for her dinner party and while I was making the cake I felt like it was such a good representation of where we are at as a family, so today I’m sharing the pictures of her cake, along with our story. Let me be the first to say it, adoption is hard. Not that I ever thought it would be easy but I never… Read More
How to Organize Spices in a Drawer
Since moving into our house a year ago I have rearranged the kitchen 3, maybe even more, times. This isn’t a normal thing for me, I promise, but when we moved in there was an extra wall with cabinets, that we ended up knocking down, and then we took down a large wall cabinet, and the changes just keep coming. Through all of these changes my spices have been moved a few times but I’ve always wanted to have a spice drawer, right next to the stovetop, so that’s where they ended up. It’s a long, narrow drawer but it’s… Read More
How to Tune up a Dryer and Make it Last Longer
Our dryer is almost 8 years old and I have noticed it has been taking longer than usual to fully dry our clothes. My husband immediately started shopping around for a replacement, but I started to wonder if there was anything we could do to extend the life of our machine until we can save up for a new set. I found a tune-up kit on Amazon that says it was universal for front-loader washing machines. So I ordered it and got ready for my new role as handy-woman. In the kit I received, there was a very detailed set… Read More
The Easiest way to Clean a Deck
Thank you HomeRight for sponsoring this cleaning tutorial and giveaway! There’s something that really bothers me about a dirty deck. I don’t know if it’s because it’s ugly, or because when you walk out, and back into the house, it gets the floors dirty. Or if it’s because I have to ask my guests to carry their shoes from the front door to the back door so they won’t get the inside floors dirty, I don’t know. I feel like the inside should flow flawlessly out onto the deck so a dirty deck just erks me. I’ve tried sweeping, I’ve… Read More
How to Deep Clean a Refrigerator
This month’s reader question is, “How do you deep clean a refrigerator and get the gunk out of the crevices?” While this may not be the most fun thing to clean, you will be happy to get it out of the way before the holidays hit. You’ll need extra room for holiday treats and entertaining and it’s always refreshing to open the fridge to clean shelves and fresh, organized food! Grab a rag, a butter knife, and fill up your sink with hot soapy water. Let’s get started! 1) Take a quick look and throw out anything you know is… Read More
The BEST Moscow Mule Recipe
This summer we went out with some friends and I noticed a new-ish drink on the menu. I was intrigued by this “Moscow Mule”, so I ordered it, and to my surprise, I really liked it. I was refreshing, tasty and came in a copper mug that kept it extra cold! For my birthday two of my best friends surprised me and bought me a set of hammered copper mugs so we could make our own Moscow Mules at home. Lucky for me my friends husband is also a master drink mixer and researched Moscow Mule recipes to create his… Read More

This amazingly simple dessert is the classic pumpkin pie in bar form, perfect for sharing during the fall holidays. Hi again! And of course, all those pumpkin desserts… Read More
My First Fall Home Tour
This is my first time posting a Fall home tour and I’m really excited about it because this is my first time decorating for Fall in this house. Last year we were in the midst of tearing down walls, building new walls and ripping up flooring so I set out a few pumpkins but they spend most of their time covered in dust. But not this year! This year our home is not “done” but it’s 1000x better than it was this time last year, and there’s no major construction going on. 🙂 So when my friend Ashley, over at… Read More
