Let’s be honest. If you’ve been following my blog for a while then you know I’m not super crafty. But when I was presented with the offer to create something out of AstroBrights papers how could I say no? I may not be crafty but I love office supplies: paper, pens, pencils, you name it, I love it! AstroBrights Paper is about creativity and getting noticed, and I can definitely be creative! Malea is starting school in a couple weeks so originally I thought I’d use the paper to make something for her but when I received the AstroBrights Paper I knew I had to make something extra special with it. It’s so bright and colorful that I wanted to create something fabulous to showcase it! So my challenge: I have lots of super bright and beautiful paper, I should create something for Malea since she’s getting ready to start school…but I’m not crafty… I know, I’ll make a cake! Everyone loves cake!
What better way to celebrate Malea starting her first year of school than to bake her a cake? And since every kid loves pinwheels I thought it would be the perfect combo!
My first problem was trying to decide which colors I wanted to use for the pinwheels. There were 10 vibrant colors in the pack I received {it comes in 23 colors total} and I had a hard time deciding which ones were my favorites. They are all so pretty but I finally decided on a pink, brown, teal and orange combo.
After choosing the colors I started cutting and folding, cutting and folding, cutting…. you get the idea. Luckily I was able to recruit my husband to help me fold all the little 2 inch pinwheels!
The next day Malea and I baked the cakes. I love spending time with her and we always have so much fun when we are baking together. This was the perfect project to celebrate her going to school because I got to spend lots of time with her during the process!
After the cake was baked and frosted I added all the bright pinwheels!
I’d say this cake was the perfect way for me to “Make Something Astrobright” as well as celebrate school starting! Isn’t it fun?!

I know, isn’t it crazy!? I can’t believe it either. I’m super excited for her but sad at the same time…

Super fun, Anna! Would you believe that I’ve never made a layered cake? I don’t have the patience for it…and besides, I don’t think my thighs could handle any more sweets in my life.

Haha, you’re funny. 🙂 I don’t make them to eat, I make them to take to events! I shared this one with Malea and then I took it to a girls night so that it wasn’t left in our house!
If you ever get inspired to make a layered cake, they are super easy.
