Pinwheel Cake {Celebrating a new School Year}

Pinwheel Cake

Let’s be honest.Β  If you’ve been following my blog for a while then you know I’m not super crafty.Β  But when I was presented with the offer to create something out of AstroBrights papers how could I say no?Β  I may not be crafty but I love office supplies: paper, pens, pencils, you name it, I love it! AstroBrights Paper is about creativity and getting noticed, and I can definitely be creative!Β  Malea is starting school in a couple weeks so originally I thought I’d use the paper to make something for her but when I received the AstroBrights Paper I knew I had to make something extra special with it.Β  It’s so bright and colorful that I wanted to create something fabulous to showcase it!Β  So my challenge: I have lots of super bright and beautiful paper, I should create something for Malea since she’s getting ready to start school…but I’m not crafty… I know, I’ll make a cake! Everyone loves cake!

What better way to celebrate Malea starting her first year of school than to bake her a cake?Β  And since every kid loves pinwheels I thought it would be the perfect combo!

My first problem was trying to decide which colors I wanted to use for the pinwheels.Β  There were 10 vibrant colors in the pack I received {it comes in 23 colors total} and I had a hard time deciding which ones were my favorites.Β  They are all so pretty but I finally decided on a pink, brown, teal and orange combo.

AstroBrites Paper colors

After choosing the colors I started cutting and folding, cutting and folding, cutting…. you get the idea.Β  Luckily I was able to recruit my husband to help me fold all the little 2 inch pinwheels!

The next day Malea and I baked the cakes.Β  I love spending time with her and we always have so much fun when we are baking together.Β  This was the perfect project to celebrate her going to school because I got to spend lots of time with her during the process!Β

After the cake was baked and frosted I added all the bright pinwheels!

Pinwheel Cake

I’d say this cake was the perfect way for me to “Make Something Astrobright” as well as celebrate school starting!Β  Isn’t it fun?!

Now it’s your turn to get creative and enter to win $30,000 for the school of your choice!Β  Enter the “Give a Brighter Year” sweepstakes on the AstroBrights Facebook page and you could win all that money for your child’s school!

You can also enter the “Make Something Astrobright” design challenge for a chance to win AstroBrights Paper and other prizes! Share your projects with pictures and video! And if you share anything via Pinterest or Twitter please use the hashtag #goastrobrights

Have fun creating!Β  Oh and if you’re wondering, “where can I get my hands on some of that amazing paper?!” I’ve got the answer!Β  All the retailers are listed here on their Facebook Page.

AstroBrights is “bright paper that spawns bright ideas. Every sheet is a thought-starting playgrounds!”Β

      I know, isn’t it crazy!? I can’t believe it either. I’m super excited for her but sad at the same time…

    Super fun, Anna! Would you believe that I’ve never made a layered cake? I don’t have the patience for it…and besides, I don’t think my thighs could handle any more sweets in my life.

      Haha, you’re funny. πŸ™‚ I don’t make them to eat, I make them to take to events! I shared this one with Malea and then I took it to a girls night so that it wasn’t left in our house!

      If you ever get inspired to make a layered cake, they are super easy.
