A couple weeks ago I set out looking for the perfect chair for my office. I found the perfect chair at a local consignment shop and it had even been recently redone.
Pretty cute, right? Well unfortunately when I got it home and put it next to my desk the colors were too close and it clashed terribly. So I decided to give it a total makeover.
I purchased a can of Valspar spray paint and got to work covering up the blue.
The chair had been covered in chalk paint and I guess this is what happens when you spray paint over it… bubbles. Bummer.
After it dried I sanded the chair down and added another coat of paint.
While the chair was drying I decided to re-cover the seat. The original cushion was really flat and not that comfortable, so I went to JoAnn’s and purchased some really thick foam.
Step#1
Here’s what you need to recover the seat:
1. The original seat from the chair
2. New fabric
3. A pen
4. New foam {optional}
5. Razor blade
6. Staple gun
Step #2
Start by removing the original staples, or nails, from seat. I like to use a set of pliers because they have a good grip and the staples come out pretty easily.
Step #3
Remove the fabric from the seat. Look what I found under mine, ewwwww, more fabric and a really old cushion!
It even came with old cat/dog hair {don’t mind me while I gag a little}!
Step #4
Once you’ve removed all the old fabric and the old cushion, lay the wood frame on top of the new foam. Trace around the wood frame and then cut the foam to the right size with a razor blade.
Step #5
Now that the foam is the right size lay the wood frame and the cushion over the fabric. Trace around the frame to measure the fabric. Leave at least a few inches all around the frame so that there is enough fabric to tuck it under to give it a finished look.
Step #6
Staple around all of the edges, folding the fabric over to give it a nice finished look. Make sure to pull the fabric tight before stapling because you don’t want to have saggy fabric on your chair seat!

After the chair was dry and the seat was reupholstered I put them back together and here’s the finished product:
I absolutely love the way it turned out! So cute, perfect for my office and way more comfortable for those long hours of sitting and writing!
