How to Organize Legos in 30 minutes & Design a Space for being Creative

My daughter is super creative, and while I love that about her, I don’t always love the “creative messes” that go along with her creativity. These days she’s really into Legos, she’s constantly building and creating things out of them, but when I walk into her room they are all over the floor – and I mean ALL OVER. Apparently it’s easier to find the tiny piece you need by dumping all the Lego pieces on the ground. 🙂

I’ve tried for months to accept the Lego madness but I just couldn’t do it, my need for organization got the better of me and I had to come up with a solution. She’s been asking me for a desk for months now so I thought adding a desk to her room would be a great solution to contain the Legos.

Last year we bought her a loft bed and I’ve always sort of hated it because I liked how cute her room was before. But I thought maybe by adding the desk under the loft, I could create a fun little living room/creative space for her.

I purchased this glass-top desk from Walmart because I loved the bright color, and simplicity of it. It’s the perfect spot for her to sit and create for hours, while keeping the Legos off the floor (yay!).

On the other side of the loft I put this BHG 3-cube organizer, on it’s side to provide extra seating, and lots of storage! The fabric storage cubes are perfect for storing all her Legos and tiny creations. I also added a few pillow on top of the cube organizer, so it could double as extra seating for friends, or a reading bench.

I know she will spend many hours creating in the space so I added a few other fun things, like some framed printables, twinkle lights (which she refers to as stars), drapes so she can close them and make the space a “secret” fort and a colorful rug to tie it all together.

I was able to create this entire creative space in about 30 minutes and I know that she’s going to love it, and create in it, for a very long time. The best part is knowing that her Legos are organized (the way she wants them), not all over the house, and off the floor!!! Win-win for me and my little girl!
