Since moving into our house a year ago I have rearranged the kitchen 3, maybe even more, times. This isn’t a normal thing for me, I promise, but when we moved in there was an extra wall with cabinets, that we ended up knocking down, and then we took down a large wall cabinet, and the changes just keep coming. Through all of these changes my spices have been moved a few times but I’ve always wanted to have a spice drawer, right next to the stovetop, so that’s where they ended up. It’s a long, narrow drawer but it’s a spice drawer and I’m excited about it! Today I’m going to show you how I organized my spices in my little drawer.
Here’s how I had them in there before. They were organized but not pretty and organized, which is always my goal. 🙂
When I was at IKEA a couple weeks ago I picked up these glass spice jars to make my spice drawer a little prettier.
Next I pulled out each of the spice containers and emptied them into the new glass containers.
Then I labeled each of the jars with my label maker. I don’t use my label maker that often but when I do I am so thankful for it! It makes projects like these so easy!
Once all the spices had been transferred and labeled, I put them back in the drawer, in alphabetical order (of course!) from bottom to top.
I love that I can see all the spices now, I think spices are so colorful and pretty! If you didn’t want to have them leaning up like this you could also shift them to look like this.
The labels are still easy to see and the spices are still pretty. I’m curious, do you have a spice cabinet or a spice drawer? I don’t know why but it always intrigues me to see how people organize the spices in their kitchens (yes, I know I’m super weird). 🙂
Great post! I love the look too. I have a big selection of spices and herbs. I placed on the counter the frequently used spices/herbs. I use a test tube style and I placed the label on them as well. It really helps keeping them labeled. Then, I stored the larger containers in the pantry. To keep track of what I had in both of these places, I created a inventory spices / herbs checklist I shared on my blog.
Great post and I love those spice jars! I got sick of the counter spice rack that I got for my wedding a few years ago and through out the base but kept the pretty glass jars. I put them into a large pull out container and put them in a cupboard by the stove. That worked well. When I moved into our new place recently, there was this cool cupboard that I had never seen before that stores spices next to the stove in an outer section of the cupboard. http://www.pinterest.com/pin/89509111320225576/

I have too many spices to fit into a drawer – about two cabinets worth! I have several large rectangular plastic tubs labeled “A – G”, “H-L”, etc. and keep my spices in their appropriately labeled containers. I also have a large container for all of my baking extracts. It’s not the prettiest but it works very well if you have more spices than will fit into a drawer or two. I can take down the container, remove the spices I need and return them to the cabinet.
