Along with our bedroom and bathroom renovation, I have been waiting patiently to redo our downstairs game room area. And because we always tackle too much at one time, we decided to redo our downstairs this spring also! Honestly I know it’s a lot to take on, but I think after 2 1/2+ years of house projects and renovations, I’m just ready for the house to be finished. I’m ready to be able to hang out downstairs, and not avoid it because it’s such a terrible hot mess and it makes my skin crawl.
Here’s what I’m workin’ with. I know it’s hard to imagine why anyone would want to paint over that mauve wall, get rid of the frame from the old 80’s TV box and replace the 25+ year old berber carpet, but you know me, I’m crazy! 🙂
The first steps, in the process of making over this space, are painting and replacing the floors. I want the floors to be durable, so they’ll last a long time, but they also need to be able to get wet on occasion. The bathroom downstairs is the one that all of our guests use when we’re out by the pool in the summer. Often times we have wet feet running through this space, heading to the bathroom.
So in my quest to find the perfect flooring, durable, able to get wet, beautiful, etc. I received an email from Quick-Step flooring. They recently came out with a new product collection, called Envique, which checked off all the boxes of what I was looking for.
The Envique Collection revolutionizes laminate flooring and is sure to change the market in laminates! Each product in the collection has a transparent, wear-resistant overlay that makes it resistant to “stains, wear, impact, scratches, burns and household chemicals.”
The company sent me some samples, and then came the hard part, choosing the color. I’ve had the hardest time getting a vision for this space, because it is currently SO ugly, but in my mind I’m thinking I want it to be light, airy and fresh, but at the same time warm, comfortable and inviting. With that in mind these are the 3 colors I narrowed it down to.
My husband and I really liked all of them, and I love the color of the middle sample, but in the end we decided it would be too dark for the space, and we loved the bright, airy coloring of the bottom one. The color is called Gable Oak Planks and I think it’s going to be beautiful in the room, WAY better than the old, nasty carpet!
And I love that I won’t have to worry about people drying off before they run in to use the bathroom. The floor sample said it has a 24 hour moisture lock, so I decided to try it out.
Now that we have our flooring decided on, it’s time to start picking paint colors! I know what I don’t want, and that’s any more mauve!!! Stay tuned for updates, we should be installing flooring in a few weeks!
