It’s amazing how quickly kids grow and how fast they go through their clothes! I feel like I’m in a constant state of buying and getting rid of clothes for Malea because she grows so dang fast! Don’t get me wrong, it’s fun buying new clothes for her but it can also get expensive, which is why I’m grateful for friends with kids a couple years older than her, that give me hand-me-downs! With clothes coming in, clothes going out, and saving clothes for my nieces we have a lot of clothes on our hands. I used to have them all stored in the bottom drawer of Malea’s dresser but as she got older she realized I was taking clothes, that were too small but that she still loved, and I was storing them in there. There were lots of days she would come out wearing something she shouldn’t be, so I finally decided I had to get organized and put the clothes up where she couldn’t get to them. So today I’m going to show you how I used some inexpensive IKEA boxes to organize our kids clothes.
First I had to decide what categories of clothes I needed to store:
* Too big – Summer
* Too big – Winter
* Saving for Violet (one of my nieces)
* Keepsakes (I’ve saved hats my mom made her, her baby diapers, etc.)
Then I used my label maker to label each of the boxes.
Since I don’t have as many hand-me-downs coming in, as I do going out, I decided to use the smaller boxes for the stuff that is still too big for Malea and the extra large box for the stuff I’m saving for my nieces.
Now that all the clothes are organized nicely in these boxes, it’s really easy to rotate the clothes in and out of the boxes, as the seasons change. It also helps me to remember what I have because when all the clothes were in the drawer I used to forget what I had!
How do you organize your seasonal, and hand-me-down clothes for your kids?
