Black Front Door Makeover

Black Front Door Makeover | Ask Anna
Ever since we moved in to this house {1year & 3months ago} my front porch has been a total snooze-fest.  To be honest it has made me crazy but I haven’t put any time or real effort into making it fabulous.
B-O-R-I-N-G!
About a month ago I decided that I needed to paint the front door to get really inspired.  The previous owners installed slate on the front porch so I wanted to pull a color from that, I debated between Eggplant purple, dark blue and slate gray, but none of those were really getting me inspired.  That’s when I decided to just be crazy and paint it black.
I personally love black doors and since the shutters on our house are all black I thought a black door would tie right in.   So here’s what I did.
First I cleared off the door. Then I wiped it cleaned it with an all-purpose cleaner.
Then I started painting.  The flat surfaces of the door were easy to paint, but getting in all of the nooks was a little tough.
Here is the finished product:
Black Front Door Makeover | Ask Anna
Oh my goodness, I am in love with my black front door!  I think it looks so stylish, so modern and it gives the house a whole new look!
After it was painted I was feeling more inspired to actually style the front porch, so I added the “welcome” vinyl from Uppercase Living and then I found this super cute shoe rack at a local boutique.
Over all I am very pleased with the makeover!  And the best part is that it only cost me $25.98!  Paint: $15.98 + Shoe rack: $10.  The other accessories were all items that I had laying around the house!
For those of you thinking about painting your front door black here is the color I used: Dark Kettle Black from Valspar {Lowe’s}.
What do you think?  What color is your front door?

Adorable! Our front door is…primer white. Pretty sure the previous owners installed it when they moved in 22 years ago & it's never had another coat of paint! But we're residing this fall, so maybe a door makeover is in the works for next summer… 🙂

Ours is white, I love the black, but I don't think it would work on our house (sadly). I have been meaning to CLEAN my front door, and maybe re-paint it.

Oh my goodness, I love this! We have one of those over-done doors with the gigantic oval window. I hate it and I want a simple door. I love how you used the Welcome decal. Perfect!

Unfortunatley our front door is plain white and I don't think the evil association would let us paint it. But I love colored doors. You door came out beautiful and I love the sign, how cool!!

I LOVE your "new" door! 🙂 My brother is buying me a new garage door {much needed} and from there I ended up buying paint for the house, one new walk in door and paint for the other 2 doors. Can't stop there and now I want to paint the inside walk-in door black! 🙂 The other doors will be a burnt orange. House will be painted in what looks like a chocolate malt. So fun. And just seeing your door gets me even more excited. 🙂

Did you add anything to the paint before applying to the door? What type of brush and or roller did you use?

Oh love the black door!!!! Super jealous. I have wanted one for years but the HOA said “No dark colored doors” So, I’m stuck with the builder cream-beige we all have. UGH.
