Dark Chocolate Martini

Dark chocolate martini - Ask Anna

Most of you don’t know but I love to mix drinks.  I used to waitress in college and I always thought it would be so much fun to be a bartender.  Something about it just always seemed like so much fun.  Obviously I’m not in college anymore and the idea of working at a restaurant again just about kills me but that doesn’t mean that I still don’t love the idea of bartending.  I think mixing drinks is so much fun, I’m not sure what it is–if it’s the creativity of it, the chef aspect of it, or just the over all beauty of a perfect drink–but I love it.  I don’t get to mix very often but every once in a while I’ll get to bartend for a party or host one of my own cocktail parties where I play bartender. 🙂  Since I usually share a recipe on Sundays I though that this week I’d do something a little different and share a drink recipe instead.  I’m sure you all won’t mind. 🙂

I made this dark chocolate martini for the first time a few weeks ago and when I did everyone at the table was drooling over it.  My husband said, “this is the best martini I’ve ever had!” which is a pretty big compliment since he’s pretty picky about his martinis.  Are you dying to know what’s in it now? 🙂

Dark chocolate martini - Ask Anna

I found this drink recipe in an old Food Network Magazine that my mom gave me, it’s called the Dark Chocolate Martini.  Here’s what you will need:

For the rim of the martini glass:
2 TBS raw sugar
2 TBS finely chopped dark chocolate

Mix the sugar and chocolate and put it on a shallow plate.  Moisten the rim of a martini glass and dip it in the sugar/chocolate mixture.

For the cocktail:
2 oz Chocolate liqueur
2 oz Vodka
1 oz Chilled espresso
1/2 tsp fresh orange juice

Mix all ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice and shake well.  Strain the cocktail into the glass.

I promise you will not be disappointed with this one.  I’d love to hear what you think after you’ve tried it. Enjoy!

Now that's my kind of drink! I bartended for quite a few years at a steakhouse….actually where I met my hubby…anyhow, it is fun mixing drinks….the people most of the time get obnoxious after 10pm…sometimes before…but I don't know how to explain it…once you get good at it it's like a dance your are coreographing(sp)…I know that sounds cheesy but I can't think of any other way to describe it. I still love mixing drinks…my favorite is a pomegranite martini…I just love the look of a chilled martini glass!

For the longest time my now-8-year-old daughter wanted to be a bartender at Red Robin. Why? Because they make pretty drinks and make everyone happy!

Hel-lo! That is one drink I can get into. I'm curious how the orange juice interacts with the chocolate.
