Question:
“How can I manage to clean and prevent the spread of germs while living in a dorm room with two other girls , especially since we share the same bathroom? Let’s just say that bathroom cleanliness is not their highest priority. How should I approach the topic with the girls and also how should I keep up the room if they don’t seem to care. It’s hard especially if someone is sick too. Lots of challenges of dorm life but it’s a great experience and I know all these compromises will help me in the future.”
Answer:
Well it’s been a looooong time since I was in college but I remember how gross it can get living in a small space with other girls. College life is busy: you are studying all the time, there is so much to do, new people to meet, new places to go, etc. so I know, how to clean a dorm, room isn’t one of the top priorities for most students!
The best way to tackle dorm room cleaning issues are with a few dorm room essentials: lots of wipes. These days there are wipes for everything: Windex wipes, Pledge wipes and disinfecting wipes.
You’ll have to decide the best way to talk to your roommates, I can’t really help you with that (sorry), but I would suggest talking to your them and scheduling a cleaning morning for one Saturday a month. If you can battle the room together–at least once a month–then maintaining a clean room should be simple.
Next go out and buy a cute basket and fill it with the following: (maybe if you all do it together it will get them excited about it to)
1. Windex wipes (for mirrors, glass, refrigerator–inside and out)
2. Greenworks Bathroom cleaner (for the shower, sinks and countertops)
3. Sponges
4. Pledge wipes (for wiping down your desks, beds, dressers, coffee table etc.)
5. Disinfectant wipes (for door handles, toilets, bathroom floors and pretty much anything)
After you finish filling your “cleaning basket” find a place on the counter {or at least someplace that’s very visible} and set the basket out. This way the wipes are easily accessible and you can grab them as you walk by. Make a habit to grab them and wipe things down frequently. If you stay on top of the cleaning then it won’t ever get so out of control that it’s a “chore”.
Happy cleaning!

I had clean roommates and REALLY messy roommates! I can totally understand this question because everyone comes from different households that don't have the same level of "cleanliness"! Becky B.www.organizingmadefun.blogspot.comOrganizing Made Fun
