This post is my Day 14 of the Organizing Challenge at A Bowl Full of Lemons.
Under your bathroom sink… probably not an area that gets a lot of attention, but probably an area that needs some! I know mine definitely needed some love. Actually this mess has been driving me nuts for some time so I was thankful when I saw today’s challenge! This afternoon Malea and I treked to Big Lots and bought some great baskets to match the green ones that I already had, matching is important to me because I think it makes a space look more organized.
Under the sink and the side cupboard: Before. |
Baskets I already had from when we moved. |
Take everything out and clean.
Looks like a lot more crap when you pull it all out! |
I forgot to take a picture of under the sink while I had everything pulled out but as you can see I did take it all out to clean and it was pretty gross under there. We only moved in 7 months ago so I was pretty amazed how gross it already was!
Step 2:
Organize your baskets by category. For me I have hair coloring products, travel items, extra makeup products that I only use for special occasions, the products I use everyday–face wash, lotion, hair spray, etc.
Start putting things back in. I layered my baskets and products in order of how often they are used.
Layer 1 (and a half–I forgot to take out the baskets on the right when I took the picture, oops). |
Layer 2. Matt’s stuff is on the left in the orange and my stuff is on the right in the green baskets. |
I didn’t do a lot with these two baskets but I did clean out the one on the bottom and throw away a few things. |
Basket for curling irons, blow dryer, brushes, etc. |
I’m so happy with the transformation! Now I won’t have to roll my eyes at the mess under the sink every morning when I open it to get my lotion out. 🙂 I hope this transformation inspires you to take a double look under your bathroom sink!

Love those green containers! I just found some at Target on clearance and plan to use them somewhere during my organizing process. Looks great and now there's a place for everything!

If you run out of places to organize at your house you can come to mine! 🙂 My bathroom sure needs that, seeing that i only have 1!!!

I LOVE using baskets and little shelves under sinks! I like the idea of having the baskets match each other, so that it looks more uniform. I'll have to stock up on some that actually coordinate.

I love your bathroom declutter. I am inspired to work on mine. I could not find colorful baskets locally so I didn't do it last week. I think a trip to the big city is in order to get my 4 bathrooms under control!

I know this is an old post but I found your blog on Pinterest. I finally organized under my bathroom sink about 2 months ago & I know what I want to do next time. One thing I love about your organizational tips is that you use coordinating baskets which really make it look even better. I've become quite cheap in the past year and a half that I've been unemployed & many of the items I've bought (locker wire shelves like the one in your photos!) have been from thrift stores! I got about 3 of them for $1-2 a piece & it made me happy…it's just that now I finally let myself go into our new Dollar Tree in town, I saw all the containers & things for $1 that I really want to stock up on so I can have mine coordinate too! 🙂 Thank you for sharing your ideas & inspiring me to get my yucky hideaway areas to look nice again!
