Hi, everyone! This is Lauren from Mom Home Guide, and I am excited to share with you one of my recent, and super easy decorating projects! As you may know, I am a bit of a decorating nut — there’s hardly anything in my home that can escape being decorated or redecorated at least once or twice! So when one of my twin tweens recently moved into her own bedroom (the girls had been sharing a room until recently), I had to do something about her plain white light switch cover! The light switch cover in her sister’s room is a specialty light switch plate, and I knew she would be sad to have a plain plate! So I decided to create custom washi tape light switch covers for her!
The project was super easy — and only took a few minutes! The only materials I needed were ones I already had on hand!
Washi Tape Light Switches Materials
- Washi tape
- Scissors
- Light Switch Plate
- Screws
- Screwdriver
In case you don’t know what washi tape is, the tape is basically a very pretty masking tape that originated in Japan. The tape can now be found everywhere in all sorts of patterns and can be purchased in just about any craft store.
To make the washi tape decorated light switch cover, I first used a screwdriver to remove the light switch cover and its screws from my daughter’s room. I then simply applied the washi tape on the switch plate cover in a pattern I liked. I made sure to carefully fold the ends of the washi tape over onto the back of the plate.
To make the openings for the screws and the light switches, I simply used my scissors to cut small openings in the washi tape where the openings for the switches and screws are, and neatly folded them to the back side of the light switch plate.
When my daughter came home and saw the new washi tape light switch cover on the wall in her room, she was very happy! (It turns out that she was jealous that her sister had a custom light switch cover!)
I had so much fun that I even made a washi tape light switch cover for my home’s kitchen! I also used washi tape to make a fun Valentine’s Day Countdown for my kids on our fridge!
Happy decorating!
Lauren
