Question:
“Do you have any tips for cleaning the un-submersible part of the crock pot? Somehow liquid drains in there and gets burnt on, especially since I didn’t clean it when the problem first started.”
Answer:
This is a great question! I’m sure you are not the only one out there asking this. 🙂 I have 2 tips for how to clean a crockpot, one is quick, the other needs to sit over night.
1. Use baking soda and water to make a paste the consistency of pancake batter. Use your fingers to rub the paste onto the dirty spots and then set a timer for 15-20 minutes. After the baking soda mixture has set for 15-20 minutes wipe it off with a soft sponge or a rag. If there is any residue left from the burnt food repeat the process.
2. You can’t submerse the bottom part of the crock pot (the heating element) but you can get it wet. First rinse it out, as best you can, with a damp cloth. Then take dish washing detergent and heavily coat the parts of the burning element that have liquid burnt onto it.
Let it sit over night.
By the morning the detergent will have eaten through the burnt areas. Use a non-scratch sponge to lightly scrub it off.
**Keep in mind that with both of these solutions the burnt liquid will probably leave a stain so your heating element probably won’t look brand new, at least I know mine doesn’t sparkle like it used to.**
Once you get all the burns off, for future uses try to remember to wipe it out after each use. This will keep your crock pot in good condition so that it lasts longer, and it will make less work for you in the long run. 🙂 Isn’t that what a crock pot is for anyways, to make life easier, less work?
Happy slow cooking!

have you used mr. clean magic erasers? i wonder if that might work well on this… I love them for hard to get off stains and easy cleanup of wall scuffs.

That is awesome! I cook with a crock pot all the time. I use the bags to make it easy cleaning and I found them for like $0.20. Thanks for sharing over at Tuesday Tell All.

Buy some cheap liquid/gel or powder Dishwasher Detergent. Fill the crock with hot water and add a good squirt of detergent. Let it soak for a half hour and it will wash clean every time. This works for all KINDS of burnt on or baked on gunk in all kinds of pots and pans. I never scrub any of them anymore. Try it

Hi Anna,i just bought the slowcooker and I forget the plastic piece under the crock part, one of the pin says use oven cleaner I did but still little bit plastic is still remain, can you tell me any other option or is itsafe to use my crockpot now.thanks for your help!

Areej,
Anna is not certain what else to use to get the little bit of plastic off. It will probably melt off over time after continual washing. Also, as long as the plastic piece is on the outside of the bowl, it should be safe to use. We hope this is helpful.

plastic liner for the crock pot melted onto the inside rim. Help
Anna says
Yikes! I’m not sure what to do about that, I’ve never used the plastic liners so I’m not familiar with them. I would recommend calling the manufacture of the liners and ask them how to get it off – I’m sure you’re not the first this has happened to. 🙂
