Hi, everyone! It’s Lauren from Mom Home Guide. I am happy to be here sharing my latest decorating project — my DIY side table made from a stool!
I have been wanting an extra side table for my home’s living room for a while now. I only furnished my home’s living room about a year ago, and ever since, I’ve been happily decorating it to make it a bright and sunny space! But I haven’t been able to find the perfect table. That is, until I converted a stool that I haven’t been using, into a quick and easy side table!
Materials Needed
- Stool
- Scrapbook paper
- Mod Podge
- Paint brush
- Twine
- Scissors
The first thing I did to makeover the stool into a side table was select a pretty piece of scrapbook paper to cover the top of the stool. Once I selected my piece of paper. I traced the circular outline of the top of the stool onto my paper and cut out the circular shape with a regular pair of scissors.
I applied a layer of Mod Podge onto the top of my bar stool with a paint brush and carefully placed my piece of scrapbook paper onto the surface, smoothing out any bubbles. I applied a layer of Mod Podge onto the top of the scrapbook paper to give my scrapbook paper top a protective cover.
To create a shelf for my new side table, I knotted some twine onto one of the rungs below the seat and wrapped the twine around the top two rungs of the stool until I had enough for a shelf. I snipped my twine from the spool of twine and knotted the end piece of twine into place when I was done.
In all, this DIY stool side table took me less than an hour to complete!

Any reason why you decided not to do the twine shelf on the lower rung as well?

Hi, Cyril! At first I only wanted one shelf, but I added a second twine shelf later.
