As you know we are in the process of updating our kitchen and one of the things that needed to be changed was the can light above the kitchen sink. I love can lights but I feel like you need a statement light over the kitchen sink, especially when there’s a window there, like mine. I really wanted a farmhouse style light over my kitchen sink so I bought this one at Home Depot but I needed to get rid of the can light first. So today I’m giving you a very easy tutorial for how to turn a can light into a pendant.
Here’s what you need:
- Light fixture
- Light conversion kit
- Screwdriver
Next remove the spotlight and the can fixture. The housing of the can light will stay in the ceiling, DO NOT remove it.
After the can fixture has been removed screw in the brackets for the conversion kit.
In the conversion kit the wiring all comes out of a part that looks like the end of a light bulb. Screw that piece into where the light bulb used to go.
The ground wires are on the faceplate of the conversion kit. The next step is to connect them to something.
After the ground wires are connected pull the wires through the hole in the face plate and screw the face plate to the ceiling.
Next attach the bracket for the pendant light fixture.
Connect the wires from the conversion kit to the pendant light.
Screw the pendant light to the bracket and then you’re finished! Now all you have to do is add a light bulb and the glass fixture!
This is a very easy project to complete, I think ours only took us a total of about 15 minutes. In that short about of time it took our kitchen from this…
…to this! So much better and such an inexpensive easy project.
