I am so excited to show you my little girl’s room makeover!!! And there’s a giveaway at the end of the post so don’t miss it! When we moved into our house, until last week, Malea’s room was ugly mauve, yes, UGLY, picture the early 90’s. It’s hard to capture it’s true ugliness in a picture, but I tried. The ceiling and fan were even mauve!
She also got our old dresser because when we moved we had to leave her custom closet at our other house. The dresser took up a ton of space in her room and it was constantly cluttered because she loves to find, and keep, “treasures”.
So I decided to sell the dresser and buy her an armoire, that would take up less floor space. I also moved her bed in front of the window to open up the room more.
Then it came time to paint. I can’t tell you how excited I was to get rid of the mauve! To save time on painting I used the PaintStick EZ-Twist from HomeRight. It makes painting so much faster, and cleaner, because the paint goes into the handle and out through the roller, so no spilling paint over the can and no tray clean up!
Adding a brighter color to the walls and painting the ceiling white completely transformed the room and made it so much happier. Are you ready to see what it looks like now???
Adding the chandelier made the room more “girly” and Matt and I made the custom bookshelves for her (post coming soon) because she loves to read.
I also love her new bedding that I found as a set at Target. I think the yellow paisley is so much more fun than the black comforter she had before, and they are a fun color combination with the bright pink curtains my mom made for Malea.
The armoire is pretty fabulous too. It may not be the custom closet she used to have but it has tons of storage space on the bottom and in the top! Now I just have to decide what color to paint it. Thoughts?
Here are a few other details of the room.
I am so excited with how her room turned out. Now instead of trying to rush by her room and not notice how ugly it is, I want to stop and linger in the doorway, and admire how bright and happy it is.
Now for the giveaway! Do you have any painting projects coming up? If you do then you are going to want to win the PaintStick EZ-Twist! As I mentioned it makes painting so much faster and there’s less mess to clean up! Fill out the Rafflecopter form below to enter to win!

A pale yellow, I think.
Sherri Howell says
I think it would look cute in the steeple white maybe, or a soft yellow

dear anna,
your daughter is one lucky girl! What a fantastic bedroom for a little girl. Thank you for the great giveaway. Every time I paint I promise myself I’ll never do it again, but maybe if I try this great roller . . .
PS have no clue what rss means. I follow you (eagerly) on bloglovin.

Sorry, didn’t see that you wanted me to pick a color. I think the color of the magazine/book rack is great, and then the armoire would pick up the pillow and the paper lantern as well. What ever you choose will be great!

Your daughters bedroom is adorable…I think a soft yellow would look good..
Kathy says
We just did my son’s room. I totally get that just wanting to walk by and stop and gaze at the improvement. Still need the paint the hall. The paint stick would make it so much quicker. Thanks for sharing.

I think a bright, cheery pink to match the curtains would be cute.
Jo Ashley says
cheery pink
Marianne says
Love the transformation!
Sara says
A yellow to coordinate with the comforter.
NAT says
I’m thinking a pale pink or a white w/pink added.
Jonelle says
a soft pale yellow would really keep you in the whimsical girly vibe you have going

The room looks great! Awesome job. We’ve been thinking about decorating our 3 son’s rooms, and they need more storage. Have you ever used a platform/drawers under the bed? Jusr
Anna says
I haven’t but I think it’s a great storage solution!
Leslie says
I say white with a stencil border of yellow to match the bedspread!
Jana says
I have so many paint projects coming up! I just have to choose paint colors!
Lori says
Very cute!!
I think the armoire would be nice in the same color as the closet
Cathy in WV says
Soft yellow or a soft white with yellow stenciling. 🙂

You made it look easy! Can’t wait to see how the bookshelves were made! Does the paint stick work on popcorn type ceilings or do you have advice about painting them?
Anna says
I’ve never painted popcorn ceilings so I’m not sure. I would think spraying them would be easier. HomeRight has a great sprayer that I just used to paint my kitchen cabinets and those bookshelves. Here’s the link – http://www.homeright.com/products/finish-max-fine-finish-hvlp-sprayer

Super cute room transformation!
I think the armoire would look great in a sunny yellow color. Maybe paint the rectangles on the doors in a dark pink or aqua color. Or swap the colors around and paint the armoire pink, white, or blue. Oh and I think it would also look really cute to swap out the hard for glass knobs. That way if ties into the crystal chandelier.
Debbie says
It looks great! Love the color!
Amy Frye says
I would paint it a fun blue to help pick up the blue accents in the room such as the star pillow and the paper lantern. My daughter loves her pink curtains, which would make another great color choice.
Safire Waldron says
I think a complimentary yellow to the comforter would be superb, possibly the same yellow. Very whimsical and cheery!
Rosemary says
turquoise with a surprise inside, like white or pink inside shelves.
Anna says
Ooo, I LOVE that idea!!!
Debbie says
Hi Anna, Adorable room! I think the armoire would look good painted in the same manner/same colors as the “You are my sunshine” sign.
dmradchic says
I’d stick with a shabby chic style of white, then paint a really bright color on the inside, like the blue you have in the pillow and paper lantern. White will have more longevity than a bold color and it seems like you have enough color going now. You could also paint the hardware a bright color to add some pop. Those could easily be repainted if she outgrows this room or you move the armoire to a different room.
Laura @ Finding Home says
What an incredibly clever product – we are getting ready to paint our master bedroom and this would be so perfect! Thanks for sharing!
Dolls says
A beautiful turquoise, soft, with orange or hot pink hardware!
