It’s day #4 of the Spring Cleaning Challenge and today we are going to tackle spring cleaning the dining room! When you think about spring cleaning I’m sure you normally don’t think of the dining room but there is quite a bit to be done in there. Let’s start by getting out our checklist.

Dusting
1. I always say dust first, from top to bottom, so you don’t get dust on things that have already been cleaned. Start by wiping down the crown molding with a damp EnviroCloth, which is my all-time favorite microfiber cloth. I like to use the Enviro cloth because it captures dust, as well as any oils that have made their way up there. Who knows how things like crown molding get greasy, but it does!
2. Next dust the light fixture and the cord. Don’t forget the cord because often times you’ll find little dust webs in between the hooks.
3. From there head over to the windows and dust the molding, sils, etc. Work your way all the way from the top to the bottom of the room, including the baseboards.
Wash
1. After giving the room a good dusting you’ll need to do some washing. Again let’s start from the top and work our way down. If the light in your dining room has glass covers on it, remove them and wash them in the sink with soap and water.
2. While they are drying remove your chair slipcovers, treat them for stains, and toss them in the washing machine.
For stains I use OxiClean Max Force Stain Remover because it has gotten out every stain that I’ve ever used it on!
3. While your slipcovers are being washed, and your glass covers are drying, wash the windows using an antibacterial window cloth and water. If your window tracks are dirty use this trick to get them clean.
4. Don’t forget the floors! Whether you have carpet, hardwood or tile in your dining room, cleaning the floors is a very important part of spring cleaning. Start by vacuuming the floors and if you have hardwood or tile, steam clean them using this all-natural floor cleaner from Clean Mama. If your tile floors have stains on them, or the grout is dingy, use this quick and easy trick to get them up.
If there’s carpet in your dining room take this opportunity to have it steam cleaned, or rent a steam cleaner for a day. To get stains out of the carpet, use my favorite stain remover is Woolite Pet+Oxi, it gets everything out from wine to red sauce!
Polish
1. Spring cleaning is also a great time to polish furniture and the silver. Don’t worry, polishing the silver isn’t as daunting as it used to be, all you need is foil, baking soda, a sink and some boiling hot water. Get the full instructions in this post.
It will be sparkly clean in no time!
2. Since we’ve already dusted our furniture, now it’s time to polish it! To polish wood furniture, without harsh chemicals, follow these directions at Stain Removal 101, to make your own furniture polish with oil, vinegar and lemon juice!
Now your dining room is sparkly clean and ready for a party. Or maybe you want to keep it spotless and just stare at how clean it is for a few days. 🙂 Either way you can cross “Dining Room” off your Spring Cleaning list!

But what about the chandelier??? Do you have any tips how to clean it?
Anna says
Do you mean the crystals on a chandelier, or the cord, etc?
MummyElizabeth says
The entire Crystal chandelier. Do you advise taking it apart in order to clean it or do you have another method?

Super cute checklist!!
I might have to add “hose down the dining room table and chairs” under the “other” section because my boys are ridiculously messy when they eat. One of these days we’ll be out of this toddler stage 🙂
Anna says
That’s a good one. 🙂 I have daughters so I forget that boys are so messy.
