It’s always important to organize when you clean, but organizing while you Spring Clean is even more important because it’s a more detailed cleaning of your entire house! Today I’m going to share 5 tips for how to organize while you Spring Clean, which will help you maintain a cleaner, more organized home all year long.
#1 Start from Scratch
When you’re cleaning an area in your home it’s always best if you remove everything from the area first, instead of trying to clean around it. For example when I spring cleaned in our master bedroom closet, I took everything off the shelves to make sure I could reach every corner, nook and cranny when I cleaned it.
#2 Clean
Once everything has been cleared from the space, use a disinfectant wipe, or your favorite cleaning method, to clean the area.
If you’re cleaning out drawers in the kitchen or bathroom, I always recommend vacuuming them out before wiping them down.
There is always unwanted crumbs, hair, etc. hiding in the drawers so vacuuming them, before wiping them out, will guarantee you the best clean possible!
#3 Purge
Before putting things back into your closet, drawers, etc. make sure to get rid of items you don’t use anymore.
Whether it’s a kitchen drawer, a bathroom drawer or a closet shelf, I can guarantee you there’s at least one item you forgot you had, don’t need, or can easily part with. Purging is an important key to staying organized and maintaining a clutter-free home.
#4 Organize
The last step, before putting everything back, is organizing. If you’re organizing a kitchen or bathroom drawer use containers from around your house, or the Dollar Store, to store similar items together.
If you’re organizing a closet shelf, or a dresser drawer, use colorful storage boxes to store your items.
Organizing your items with baskets, bins, etc. will make your space function better and it will make it easier to keep clean since you’ll know exactly where to put things back.
#5 Regular Maintenance
The final key to organizing while you clean, is keeping it organized and clean. Now that your items are stored in baskets, bins, storage boxes, etc. they will be much easier to move around and clean on a regular basis. For example you will find that wiping out and cleaning the bathroom drawers is so much easier now that all you have to do is lift out the baskets to clean the drawers.
Also remember to purge on a regular basis. Spring cleaning is the best time of year to purge your unused, unwanted items, but you can also do it throughout the year. For example If you notice you haven’t worn something in awhile, take it out of your closet and put it in a donation pile. Or if you notice that your daughter only really likes to wear one of the ten headbands she has in the bathroom drawer, take the other nine and put them in a donation pile, or give them to friends with kids.
These 5 tips will help you get organized while you spring clean this year and they will also help you maintain a cleaner, and more organized home throughout the entire year!

Thanks for the reminder. I prefer purging, organizing and then spring cleaning before I put the items away. Though you don’t have to drive yourself crazy doing it all in the springtime. Breakdown the home into 12 different organize/ clean areas and assign one area per month to work on and complete. This method works well and helps your home stay simplified and organized.
