I am SOOOOO excited to share our new living room/kitchen space with you. It has been a LONG process and we have come a long way from our “before”, and our demo. Before I show you what our living room looks like now I want to show you one last before picture to remind you where we were just a couple months ago.
Here’s what our living room looks like now with our new Lumber Liquidators bamboo flooring.
I am in love with our new open concept and our new, beautiful Moso Bamboo hardwood floors from Lumber Liquidators. They completely change the look of the house and it’s so much more our style now.
The only problem now is that our kitchen cabinets were ugly before but now they are REALLY ugly up against the beautiful new floors! To me they are screaming “paint me white!!!”. (See the kitchen cabinet transformation HERE).
But the new layout of the living room/kitchen is so much better! I love the step that goes all the way around the living room, and I love that it’s a large open space for entertaining.
We have already had a couple big get-togethers and is so nice having everyone all together. And cleaning up after having a bunch of people over is so much easier with our new floors! They are a breeze to clean and even when they aren’t perfectly clean they still show well. {wink}
Here’s a close up of the floors. I love the texture of them, it “hides” things well.
People warned me that I wouldn’t like having hardwood floors in my living room but I found this AMAZING rug at Costco and I have yet to miss the carpet. It’s actually 2 smaller rugs put together and they fit the space perfectly.
And those vacuum lines… be still my heart!
Here’s one of my favorite views of our new floors. I love that instead of having 3 types of flooring (linoleum, wood and carpet in the bathroom) now it’s just wood. I think this long run of hardwood makes the house look so much bigger and more updated. I also love that there’s now a huge wall where there used to be just a railing that allowed you to see into the bedrooms. {And yes the wall still needs to be painted. Yes those are the drywall taping lines that you see.}
Of all the views though, this one is my favorite. It’s my new view while I’m standing at the stove making dinner, or just hanging out in the kitchen with my family.
I love this view and I still can’t believe this is my house. I can’t believe that this space used to look completely different, and if I used to stand right here, I’d be staring at the ovens. We’ve never done big house transformations like this before but I think I might be addicted. {Don’t tell my husband!}
There is still so much to do, install baseboards, paint the kitchen, paint the ceiling, paint the walls, paint, paint, paint, but for now I’m going to relax for a few weeks and enjoy our new space.
Come back Monday to get my full review of working with Lumber Liquidators, the flooring we chose, and more! What do you think of our new floors?

Anna, it looks lovely. Open, airy, uncluttered and sophisticated. I hope bamboo catches on more widely as a flooring in the UK because as well as being sustainable it’s beautiful to look at. Enjoy your new space!

Wow! New floors look great. What a transformation.

What is the Grey paint color?
Anna says
It’s called Partridge Gray, it’s a BHG color. I found the swatch at Walmart but then took it to Lowe’s to have them color match it because I like their paint better. 🙂

Beautiful home! We just purchased these floors from LL as well. However, looking around we’re hearing all kinds of negative things about LL and Morning Star including formaldehyde smell. I’m curious about your thoughts on the floors and LL. We have 30 days to lug them back to LL if we change our mind.
Anna says
We love ours and we haven’t had any bad smells. I would highly recommend them!

The floors are beautiful! we are about to start a big family/dining/kitchen makeover starting with the flooring. This is my first choice and I was so happy to be able to “see” yours!
ps Yes paint the cabinets (creamy) white! 2 yrs ago my wonderful husband painted my 20y/o golden oak cabinets–just until I decided what cabinets I wanted. I loved them so much I haven’t replaced them and they still look great! make sure to take your time w/prep and use a really good primer.
Anna says
Thank you Jeanette! 🙂

I love your floors. Since you have lived with them for awhile now. How do you like them? Pros or cons? I found bamboo floors I like from lumber liquidators but reluctant to buy bamboo.
Anna says
We absolutely LOVE them! They are super durable and since we have people over all the time, we have definitely put them to the test. I don’t know that we have a single dent put in since installing them this time last year. The only “con” is that bamboo splinters so there are a couple places where we sort of messed up during installation and the wood splintered a little. We just tear the splinter up, sand it down and stain it with a Minwax stain pen that matches our floors. I would totally recommend them and I would absolutely buy them all over again. We have been so happy with them and get tons of compliments on the floors. 🙂

How are the floors 3 years in? Looking at having LL install bamboo at our home.
Anna says
Oh my word, we LOVE them!!! They are so incredibly durable, I wouldn’t go back and change a thing! Even with our dog running around, our daughter roller blading around, and countless other things that have put them to the test, we don’t have a single dent. I’ve scratched it a few times by accidentally dropping something and shattering glass on the floors, but I’ve always just filled in the scratches with a stain pen. If you have an active household, I would HIGHLY recommend these floors. And they are pretty, everyone that comes over for the first time asks us about them and wants to know where we got them. 🙂

Hi Anna,
I’m thinking of buying bamboo from LL. Can you tell me the exact color/type you have? It looks amazing!
Anna says
We went with this one – Morning Star 9/16″ x 5-1/8 Weathered Chestnut Strand Bamboo. We absolutely love it, it’s such a quality product!
