I recently posted a list of things to clean when you move out of a house but then I had a reader email me and tell me they were moving and she wanted to know what she should clean before moving INTO their new home. So today I’m sharing a moving IN cleaning checklist, so your new home will sparkle on move in day!
Clean from top to bottom of the house, but the most important things to clean are the kitchen and bathrooms, so start there. I almost died when I saw the nastiness that the previous owners of our home, left behind for us in the kitchen cabinets, drawers and fridge! I was incredibly thankful that my mom scrubbed the kitchen clean because if I had seen some of the stuff she told me about, I probably would have burned the place down!

There are a lot of things on this Move In Checklist but don’t be intimidated by it! Get a few of your girlfriends together, go to the store and get some margarita mix, then have a girls night while your friends help you clean your new home. They will love the opportunity to see your new place and help you make it YOURS!
To make it easier on you I’ve put together a list of suggested products to use for these tasks. These are all products that I love, and use in my own home.
For your convenience, here are links to all these products (all available on Amazon Prime):
- Dusting glove
- Lambs wool duster
- Disinfecting wipes
- Clorox Clean-up with Bleach
- Magic Erasers
- Method Bathroom cleaner
- Bleach pen
- Lysol toilet cleaner with bleach
- Vinegar
Congratulations on your new home!!!

Thanks for this Anna. We’ll be moving in 4 months and this is what I’ve been looking for.

How do you clean marble floors?
Anna says
I wrote this post about how to clean marble counters and you can use the same concept for floors: https://askannamoseley.com/2012/07/how-to-clean-marble/, just use a mop instead of a rag.
If you don’t want to use cleaning products on your floors Norwex sells an awesome mop set. All you have to do is get the mop head wet and it will clean and sanitize your floors! You can purchase it here: http://www.norwex.biz/publicstore/stores/AnnaMoseley/AM/product/Mop-Starter-Collection,889,199.aspx.

Thank you! This is so helpful! We are moving in a week and most of the cleaning services we researched and talked to don’t provide a deep enough cleaning. It feels like we are paying just for surface cleaning so this list REALLY helps.
Thanks!

Hi Anna! I LOVE this list! Thank you so much! One thing though, could you please add disinfect dishwasher to it? 🙂
Love your blog and I just “liked” your FB page. Great info! I just moved in to our new house and your deep cleaning list is a keeper!
