Planning ahead is very important when it comes to planning a fabulous party. The first thing you want to do is to make sure that all of your guests will be able to join you. Two months prior to the party is too early to send out invitations but it’s not too early to send out a Save the Date invite to get them thinking about your fabulous party!
How early you send out a Save the Date invite will depend on what time of year your party is taking place. For example I throw an annual Wine Paring Party every December but since December is such a busy month for everyone I make sure to get a Save the Date sent out to my guests at least two months in advance. However for birthday parties I will wait and send out a Save the Date invite only 1 month in advance. Decide when to send out the Save the Date invites according to how busy your schedule is that time of the year.
Sending out Save the Date invitations, as well as the party invitations, can get pricy. To save money I use Evite.com for all of my Save the Date invites. It is quick, easy and it will save you a lot of money.
When it gets a little closer to the party, about 3 weeks out, it’s time to send out the “formal” invitations. My rule is to always mail invitations, let me tell you why.
Let’s face it, who doesn’t love to get mail?! Sending invitations in the mail will get your guests really excited about the party, it will get them thinking about it and anticipating the fun that’s coming up. When a guest receives the invitation in the mail they are more likely to start getting excited about your party because they will know you are going the “extra mile”.
In this technology savvy world we live in I get a lot of party invitations via email and Facebook. Of course I still attend these parties but the anticipation and the excitement for these events is never the same as it is when I receive an invitation in the mail. Think about how easy it is to read an evite or a Facebook invite, and then forget about it. However if you receive an invitation that you can hold in your hand, hang on your fridge, and look at every day, the anticipation and excitement for the party will continue to build for the next few weeks. If you want your guests to be just as excited about the party as you are, then send your invitations in the mail.
