I know I’ve written about my Norwex EnviroCloths before and how they are great for cleaning stainless steel, windows and more, but today I want to show you my favorite thing to clean with them – cooking grease. This time of year I cook a lot more and it makes me absolutely crazy when I’m sauteing veggies or browning meat and grease splatters all over the countertop, the floor, etc. In the past the grease splatters have been so hard to clean but not now that I have my secret weapon!
The Norwex EnviroCloth is made up of microfibers 1/200th the size of a human hair which makes it incredibly effective at trapping grease, dirt and other messes. When we first moved into our house it was SO dirty, greasy and gross. I honestly don’t know if the previous tenants had ever cleaned it, it was BAD. I tried everything to clean up the front of the oven and the stovetop but I couldn’t cut the layers of grease. After posting something about it on Facebook my friend let me borrow one of her EnviroCloths and I was amazed at what it could do. It turned my white oven, that was black with greasy fingerprints, back to white again, and it cut through, who knows how many layers of grease, that were caked on the stovetop.
Obviously I’ve never let my kitchen get that grody again, so I couldn’t use it for this post, but I’ve had my eye on a stovetop range hood at my friend’s house for some time. I finally mustered the courage to ask her if I could use it for my post, and she graciously said yes.
When I talked to her husband about the hood he said, “We’ve tried everything!” He said they’d used all kinds of de-greasing products and tried scrubbing it with a sponge but nothing touched the grease.
Of course I didn’t let that intimidate me, I just took it as more of a challenge for me and my EnviroCloth. 🙂 And it’s a good thing I didn’t give up because look at the difference!
It’s pretty amazing what the EnviroCloth can do! All you have to do is get it wet, wring it out, and then scrub away.
I use it to clean tons of stuff in my house, but especially the kitchen! It’s the easiest way to get smudges off of stainless steel, it’s the best way to clean up cooked on grease, or grease splatters from tonight’s dinner, it cleans countertops and cook tops without chemicals and it even cleans water spots off the window! I’m telling you, EVERY kitchen needs one!
So that’s my secret. I never ever spend hours scrubbing and cleaning my kitchen because after cooking a greasy meal I use my EnviroCloth to wipe up the grease, and everything else in the kitchen, and it’s back to sparkly clean in no time!
The EnviroCloth makes a great gift, get one for you, a friend, and even your mother-in-law! I’ve given them to friends before and they love them and rave about how amazing they are!

baking soda paste works great too.

I love using half and half vinegar and water with a squirt of dishwashing liquid together with old towels/tea towels/facewashers. This is my all-purpose spray from mirrors, windows, kitchen and is great on grease spots, bathrooms and shower glass and tiles. Love it!

I add baking soda to this, it helps with the tough stuff and is not abrasive.

Would these also work on the cabinet fronts? I usually use Murphy’s Oil Soap, but I can always feel a grease residue afterwards….Thanks
Anna says
Yep! I wiped down my friends cabinets after I did her stove hood. 🙂 This is also my favorite thing to use on SS appliance, it takes the greasy prints right off!

How do you clean the cloths? Can you just throw them in the washer with other towels? I’m intrigued but I don’t want to get something I can’t clean easily.
Anna says
Yep, there are two ways to clean them, one is throwing them in the washing machine. Just don’t use any fabric softener and don’t put them in the dryer. The other is to boil them in water for 5 -10 min. I throw mine in the washing machine because it’s easier. 🙂

I do love my Norwegian cloths. Magic Erasers work better on the baked-on grease on stainless steel or glass, but you can’t re-use those! Chemical-free is the way to go.

Will these work on grease splatters on painted walls?
Anna says
Yes. If the paint is semi-gloss then you won’t have a problem, but if it’s a flatter sheen then just make sure you don’t apply too much pressure because you might end up rubbing the paint off.

I was looking on the site and cannot figure out which cloth to get. I am interested in initially using it for the kitchen grease. Is there a difference between the window and kitchen cloths?
Anna says
The EnviroCloth will do windows too but I prefer my window cloth for windows and mirrors, it takes less time for the water to dry so there are never any streaks. Here’s a package that had the EnviroCloth, window cloth and a dusting mit – http://annamoseley.norwex.biz/en_US/customer/shop/product-detail/40526. If you’re mainly looking to clean kitchen grease, appliances, counters, etc. then I recommend the EnviroCloth – http://annamoseley.norwex.biz/en_US/customer/shop/product-detail/40321. Let me know if you have any questions, you will LOVE them!
