I’ve had the same box for my Thanksgiving decorations, for years. It’s one, really big tub, that I shove everything into, and every year when I pull it out I think “man, I need to organize this!”
This year I decided I’d had enough, so armed with my new DYMO Label Manager, I whipped myself into shape and decided to organize my holiday decorations. It’s actually really easy to do, the only time it cost me was a trip to Walmart to purchase some better bins. If you don’t have a Walmart near you, these ones from Amazon are the same thing (and a little cheaper).
I’m getting ahead of myself though, the first thing you need to do is take down all your holiday decorations and organize them so that similar items are grouped together.
I separated mine into 2 1/2 piles – pumpkins, flowers/vases and a few other random things like a pillow and Fall sign.
Once all the decorations were taken down and organized into groups, I assessed how much stuff I had and then I went to the store to purchase the bins. This is important because if you buy the bins before you know how much stuff you have, then you might end up doing the “cramming” method that I’d been doing for the last few years.
There are lots of fun colorful bins on the market but I personally like the clear ones, and for less than $30, I purchased 4 new bins, 2 large and 2 small, to organize my decorations.
What I learned from organizing my holiday decorations this way is that I have a lot of pumpkins! I purchased the 2 large bins for the majority of my decorations but the two small ones I used to keep my glass pumpkins and loose flowers separate from everything else, so they wouldn’t get broken or lost.
After all my items were placed nicely in the bins, I used my LabelManager 160 to label each of the bins so when I’m looking for something next year, I know exactly where to find it. With it’s easy one-touch fast formatting keys, it was easy to create labels that will make my bins easy to identify.
Having the bins labeled will also make it easy for me to repack them each year, which will keep my holiday decorations organized for years to come!
I love the way everything fits nicely on the shelves now. The 2 small bins fit perfectly on top of one of the larger bins, so I can keep all my Fall decorations together in one place.
While I was at it, I also put a label on my gift wrapping bin, so now the whole shelf is nicely organized!
Next up are my Christmas decorations, they are in desperate need of organization because I’ve bought so many new things the last couple of years. They are currently overflowing the top 2 shelves in my storage area but not for long!
The LabelManager 160 is available at Amazon.com, with Prime shipping! What are you waiting for, it’s time to get organized this holiday season, no more putting it off! 🙂

I did the same thing with my Christmas decorations a couple of years ago. I was getting wayyyyy too many Christmas items. I have a December b’day as well and people feel compelled to purchase something ‘Christmasy’ for me. I finally decided enough was enough and downsized them. I would rather have a few things I LOVE than a bunch of stuff I like. Then it was just a matter of organizing the bins! It has made decorating so much easier and enjoyable!

Hi, Isela! I’m Anna’s assistant, Bethany. Anna has a few posts on the blog about how she has decorated her daughter’s room that I think you might enjoy and get some inspiration from: https://askannamoseley.com/2014/07/girls-room-makeover/ and https://askannamoseley.com/2014/08/polka-dot-bedroom-wall/. Also, before Anna decorates a room, she creates a design board to get an idea of what she wants it to look like. You can read about how to create a design board, where she finds inspiration, and more, here: https://askannamoseley.com/2012/09/how-to-create-a-design-board/ Have fun decorating, and thank you for the kind words regarding the blog!
