I know you’re all probably dying to see the outdoor kitchen makeover reveal, and I’m dying to show it to you, but I’m still waiting for a few things to get here before I can show it to you. (Don’t worry, it’s worth the wait) But in the meantime I thought I’d show you how our deck expansion turned out.
Remember how narrow and dysfunctional our old deck was. It was so skinny that you couldn’t be sitting in a lounge chair and have someone walk by you without almost falling in the pool and look at that little table, you couldn’t even fit all 4 chairs around it! Oh and the worst part is that there was hardly any shade! Because the deck was so narrow our guests couldn’t sit around in groups to talk, everyone had to line up in a row to get a piece of the shade. It was seriously crazy, I don’t know why the last owner built it that small, she obviously didn’t throw big pool parties like we do!
After ripping out the entire deck and starting over again with better materials and plans for a bigger, more hangout-friendly deck, here’s what it looks like now.
It’s awesome! It’s crazy how just doubling the width of the deck made it feel like we tripled our space. There is so much shade now that the deck goes under the trees and there’s plenty of room to lounge around the pool without accidentally tripping someone in.
The other feature we weren’t expecting was the expansion of our view. We had no idea what we were missing out on before but now most nights you’ll find Matt and I sitting down here watching the sun set over the mountains.
We have already gotten so much use out of our new deck and I know we’ll get tons more in the years to come! We are so happy with the way it turned out. If you’re in the area you should stop by and watch a sunset with us. 🙂
Here are a couple before and afters, just for fun. I always like to do side-by-sides to see how far we’ve come on a project. 🙂
