It’s been awhile since I shared that we were going to be doing some major work in our backyard and we are well underway in the process now. I wanted to share a few pictures because if I don’t share some along the way then my final post will have 100 pictures! It has come so far and I’m SO excited about what the finished product is going to look like!
First let’s talk about the deck. Here’s what the deck used to look like.
It was long but very narrow and it made entertaining hard because there was so little room for people to stand around and talk. So we tore the whole thing out.
I was joking that it looked like we had an infinity pool after the deck was gone. 🙂 Don’t you think it kind of does?
Once the old deck was out it was actually kind of sobering to look at how our pool is held up by a single retaining wall. Let’s hope we don’t have a big earthquake any time soon.
After they tore the deck out they started working on tearing out the area where the kitchen is going to go. Here’s what it looked like before.
It was sad getting rid of the yellow swing and the Japanese maple but it was necessary to be able to build the kitchen/living room space we have in mind. This is what it looked like after demo and some excavation.
The next week the concrete guy came and poured the slab that will make up the new foundation to our kitchen.
Here’s what it looked like after they stamped and sealed it. I love the way it turned out.
Last weekend Matt and I were in Sacramento so we went shopping for granite and here’s what we bought for our countertops.
I’ve never bought granite before but Matt and I were both pretty excited about this stuff, it’s so beautiful in person, I can’t wait to see it laid out in the kitchen!
As I am typing this our contractor is downstairs framing the cabinets for the kitchen and a couple of his guys are installing the railing on the deck. Here’s what the deck looked like this morning.
It’s not quite done but it’s come a LONG WAYS in the last few weeks. I can’t wait to show you everything once it’s all done!!! What do you think of the progress so far?

Just wondering if you make a living by blogging and tweeting or have a regular full time job? If so how long did it take for your social media presents to grow to what it is now? If you could email me any tips on getting my business going I would appreciate it. Love your house makeover!

I’ve been blogging for 4 1/2 years and it’s constant work to grow my social media presence but it’s taken me since the beginning to get it to where it is now.
