I recently had a bunch of readers ask me for refrigerator cleaning tips so I thought I’d turn it into a little mini series. Today we are going to talk about the best way to clean the top of the refrigerator, and in the upcoming weeks I’ll show you how to clean the nooks and crannies inside your refrigerator.
I don’t know if you’ve ever thought to look at the top of your refrigerator but it gets pretty dusty, grimy and sometimes even sticky. I understand the dust but I honestly have no idea where the grime and stickiness come from!
The good news is that there is a super easy trick for cleaning the top of your fridge and getting rid of all that nastiness, and you don’t even have to use any chemicals! Since we just got a new fridge and the top of mine is still sparkly clean, I put a post on my personal Facebook page and asked my friends if I could come clean the top of one of their fridges! A good friend of mine answered my post and was gracious enough to let me clean the top of hers.
Here’s what you’ll need:
- Norwex EnviroCloth (my all-time favorite microfiber cloth)
- Water
- Step stool
First get the Enviro cloth wet and ring it out.
Next stand on a step stool to reach the top of the fridge. Use one side of the Enviro cloth to wipe the dust off the top of the fridge.
After all the dust is gone refold the towel to use another side to get the grimy stuff off.
Wipe the EnviroCloth in circular motions to remove the stickiness. If the top of your fridge is really sticky you might have to use a little pressure to really pull the grime up.
Re-fold the EnviroCloth as many times as you need to, depending on how dirty the top of the fridge is.
Once it’s clean rinse the EnviroCloth out with clean water and then wipe the top of the fridge down one last time. Next run your hand over the entire top surface of the fridge to make sure you got all the grime off.
Now the top of your fridge is nice and clean! The top of my friend’s fridge was so clean I could see my reflection! If you’d like to make the top of your fridge easier to clean in in the future, use THIS TIP for getting rid of dust.
Look at how much dirt, dust and stickiness came off the top of the fridge! Ewww!!!

I have found that e-cloth’s general use cleaning cloth is comparable to Norwex’s enviro cloth, and it is much more affordable (I’m able to have several). It’s made up of the same technology, only using water to clean.

When you have cleaned your frig top, take some Saran Wrap and place it over your clean top, then when you need to clean it next time, just peek off the Saran wrap! I have never used those cleaning cloths before. Do they work as well as you described?

Great idea! Yes, the Enviro cloths are amazing! They get grease, grime and dust off a number of things and they are antibacterial!!

How do you get greasy sticky build-up off of your microwave and cabinets.
Anna says
The best product for getting grease off of things, and not worrying about it taking off the stain/color, is the Enviro Cloth. Get it wet and wipe the cabinets with it, it will take the grease right off! I’ve used it on my greasy stove, fridge top and more! http://www.norwex.biz/publicstore/stores/AnnaMoseley/AM/product/Enviro-Cloth,706,203.aspx

I feel like I’m missing something here. Do these enviro cloths have a secret ingredient in them or what?! LOL They look like regular micro fiber cloths but they must be WAY better considering the price.
Delila, I LOVE your Saran Wrap idea. Thanks!

Here’s a little about what they do: “Unlike cotton cloths that will simply spread the dirt, grease and other particles around, Norwex Microfiber cloths lifts particles up into the cloth and away from the surface. Once inside the cloth, the Norwex MicroSilver in the cloth goes to work with self-purification properties against mold, fungi and bacterial odor within 24 hours, so that it is ready to use again.” There’s more great info here: http://www.norwex.biz/pws/annamoseley/tabs/microfiber.aspx. I’ve used lots of other microfiber cloths and these are worth every penny, it’s amazing what they can get off! 🙂

I can’t reach the back of the top of my fridge, even on a stepstool.
Any suggestions?

I would use a telescoping duster, something like this – https://amzn.to/3e2tkSv. 🙂
