We are slowly settling into our new house but the space is so different than our last house that I’m having to go through each closet, cupboard, etc. and find new ways to organize them. I love an organizing challenge so this week I tackled linen closet organization.
Before I could organize the space I had to make it pretty, a girl can bling out her linen closet, can’t she? Here’s what it looked like before. And yes, everything is the same color, that’s how the whole house is, it makes me CRAZY!!!
Here it is after.
A fresh coat of Village Paints, Colonial White, and some rockin’ hardware from D. Lawless Hardware and now my linen cupboards are pretty and ready to be organized!
I like to work from the bottom up so this is how I organized the bottom cupboard. I folded, and stored, all our extra blankets on the bottom shelf. Now that Fall is approaching there are lots of times we want to curl up on the couch and cuddle with a blanket and storing them here makes them easy to reach, even for my 4 year old.
On the shelf above that I placed all of our large bath towels. I probably would have stored these in the upper cabinet but they are more narrow, so I didn’t really have a choice. Having them on the lower shelf does make it easier for Malea to reach them, and help me put them away.
I also have some beach towels on this shelf. I store most of our towels down by the pool but I keep a few of them upstairs for taking to the lake, etc.
Above the lower cabinets are 2 drawers. One of the drawers is an organized junk drawer but the other one stores our cloth napkins. Now that I have a whole drawer for them I’d like to get some more colors!
I also made these cute labels, with my Silhouette, so that things get put back in the right places when other people help me with the laundry.
Here’s a look at the upper cabinet.
On the top shelf I have table cloths and table runners (which I also need to get more of), on the next shelf I have hand towels, wash cloths and sheets.
The bottom shelf holds our organized medicine boxes, bandaids, etc. You can see how I organize them HERE.
Even though this is a smaller space then I had at the other house, I think because it’s wider, and not as deep, it’s easier to organize. I like the way it looks and I also like that I have a little room to “grown into it”. Do you have any ideas where I can get some cute table linens?
Do you have a linen closet or a linen cupboard? I would love to hear how you organize them!

I try my hardest to organize mine, but it never fails the kids get into it. (And my honey. Shh.) Everyone seems to grab the towel on the bottom, I’m assuming because it’s the closest to the their short reach. Towels go everywhere, get thrown back in. Destruction! Drawers and cabinets are such a challenge.
XO,
Steph

You asked how I organize…
Though no home I’ve ever lived in had a linen closet, my towels fit in the very tiny only bathroom, by attaching metal towel racks to the old wooden door, where I roll up my towels and have two vertically, so all but three of my towels are there with washcloths.
The other three towels wait on top of the toilet tank. I added narrow wall hung cabinets, larger than medicine cabinets but not deep- to the walls that could be used for this, and so everything is accessible and kept in the bathroom.
I have a cabinet over the toilet as well, not very deep, that I found in a thrift shop & painted.
There is no vanity, just a wall hung sink, so found a plastic pull out drawer unit by Rubbermaid, at a yard sale for 50 cents, to hold bath tissue.
My hairbrush hangs on the side of medicine cabinet on command hook.
Toothbrushes & paste live on the windowsill in a vintage Moo cow clear glass.
All this works well, looks tidy, and we don’t hit our heads on anything.
Throws for the loveseat, store in a plastic container in summer, in the attic, then live on the back of the seat in cold weather. The bedroom is 10 x 10 with a wing 6 x 6 added, where I have two back to cubbies for all other storage, clothes. Gotta be very creative in a tiny 1900 yr home. (we added plywood and insulation and siding)–people obviously didn’t own much then.
Really liked your built in and your redo is very beautiful!!!
It inspires me to paint something!

They are from Target, I think there’s a better picture on this post: https://askannamoseley.com/2011/06/reader-question-how-to-organize-medicine-bottles/.
P.S. Thank you for your comment on my other post. 🙂

Your linen closet looks fantastic! I love how neatly folded the towels are. Sometimes I like to use bigger storage baskets for towels and sheets, if there is enough space.
