UPDATE: We lived in this house for 4 1/2 years and my hook never came off. Every season I changed the wreath out and I never had a problem with it coming off. When we finally moved I peeled the hook off and there was no damage from it being there for so long. I am a BIG fan of the GeckoTech hook!
I love having a wreath hang on my front door because I think adding that little bit of decor, makes our home more inviting. However the thing I don’t like about having a wreath on my door is the ugly door wreath hangers that hangs the wreath from the top of the door {you totally know what I’m talking about, don’t you}. I recently discovered a cool new product, so today I’m going to show you an awesome trick how to hang a wreath without a wreath hanger.
This new product is called Gecko Tech Reusable Hooks and they come in all different sizes and weight limits: 1/2 lb, 3 lb and 5 lb.
Make sure when you’re choosing which hook to purchase, that you take into consideration the weight of your wreath. The wreath on my front door is pretty heavy so I used the 5lb hook to make sure to support it’s weight. For small wreaths, like the ones I use on the inside of the door, and in my kitchen window, the 3lb hooks are perfect.
To hang the hook, first figure out your desired height for the wreath on your glass door. Then the instructions are super simple, just peel it off the packaging and stick the hook on the glass. Press against it to make sure it’s in place, and that’s it!
I love that with using the Gecko Tech hooks to hang wreaths, you can place the wreath wherever you want it on the glass door! When I was using my wreath hanger my wreath always hung way too high.
Now my wreath hangs exactly where I want and you can’t even see the clear hook, so your eyes aren’t distracted by the ugly thing hanging over the top of your door!
When you get tired of having a wreath on the door, or if you need to add a bigger hook for a heavier wreath, the Gecko Tech hooks are easy to take off. They peel up without leaving any residue, but if you’d like to clean the glass after removing it, I recommend a quick spray of rubbing alcohol, and a quick wipe with a microfiber cloth.
The hooks are also reusable so make sure to save the packaging, to put the hook back on it, for another use!
There are lots of other products on the market, like magnetic wreath hangers, command hooks, and other adhesive hooks, but I love this product, the suction works so well, even for my heavy Christmas wreaths!
The Gecko Tech hooks don’t just work on glass doors, they also work well on glass windows and metal doors, mirrors, and lots of other places you want to hang things! I even used the 1/2lb hooks in the back of the medicine cabinet on our RV, to hang my jewelry.
If you want to purchase the Gecko Tech Reusable Hooks they can be purchased on Amazon.com.

I love this idea & will buy some. We’ve used the 3M hooks with a tab & they do NOT remove as promised. I am going to use this for a sign in the window of our business.

Looks great! Do you think it would work as well on the door itself? My front door’s windows are really high, so I’d be sticking the hook onto the door, not glass.

The package says they work on painted surface, glass, laminate, stainless steel and tile so I think it would be worth a shot!

The hooks sound like a great idea. I’ll be looking for them at Office Max. I have had some problems with the 3 M Command Hooks and am happy to find an alternative, especially since it is reusable.

Hi Anna, We don’t have a Meijer near us, and our Office Max didn’t know what I was talking about. I hope they get them soon.. What a great idea. Thanks. Love your blog, love hometalk. so informative.
Anna says
I know they are going to be available on Amazon.com soon, so keep an eye out! 🙂

Love this! I just moved into a house with a glass front door, and I’ve been missing my door decorations. I just happened to already have one of these, but it never occurred to me to use it. Brilliant!

How well do these hooks hold in very cold weather? I live in northwestern Ontario, Canada.
Anna says
It doesn’t get below 20 degrees F where we live but I’ve had the same hook on my door ever since I wrote this post. I’ve never had it fall off and I’ve always had a wreath hanging on it. 🙂

Will try these because Command hooks do not stick!
Michelle says
I have a door very similar to the one pictured. I’ve tried a command hook already, but there is no flat glass at the center – there is a vertical line of the “metal” between the glass all the way down the center of the door. I can’t see enough detail in your photo with the hook to see where you placed yours. I’m afraid if I place the hook slightly to the left or right of center, next to that “metal” line, the wreath will not hang properly.
Anna says
My glass is flat right in the middle so I placed the hook on that. I know it’s not the favorite option but you could always use an over the door hanger, that’s what I used to use, until I found these hooks.

what’s so great about these? Don’t get how they stick to glass and if they do if they leave any thing if you decide to take if out for whatever
reason. What is on the back that makes its stick to glass??
Anna says
Hi Lynne, here is the info about the hooks from the manufacture – “GeckoTech Reusable Hooks are made using revolutionary Micro suction technology that allows them to be used again and again. GeckoTech suction-cup hooks are great on glass, painted surfaces, laminate, stainless steel and most other flat, sealed surfaces. GeckoTech hooks are waterproof after application and can be used in many different areas, including bathrooms. No tools needed to install or remove! GeckoTech hooks remove without damage and do not leave any residue.”
They are seriously awesome, that hook from this post was still hanging on our door, almost 4 1/2 years after I posted about it! I’ve also used other ones for hanging seasonal decorations and they’ve never left a residue on my windows or mirrors. I definitely recommend them. 🙂

Is it proper to hang wreaths on a double front door that have an oval etched glass design on the top half of the door? I have been told that wreaths would take away from the beautiful designs on the glass. Please help!!!
Anna says
I have always hung wreaths on doors that had those oval glass insets. I think a wreath is so inviting and adds a little bit of personality to the exterior of the house. 🙂 If you have double doors, I would buy matching ones and hang one on each!

These look awesome! This would also be perfect for hanging Christmas wreaths on windows! We’ve used clear suction cup hooks and they work great as well. BUT NEXT QUESTION- Do you know of anything similar for ganging garland (with lights) on BRICK arches?! We don’t have any recess at our mortar for those brick clips, don’t want to drive nails into brick or mortar, and the super-strength 3M-type adhesive that was recommended by the home improvement store for holding those little metal hooks on plastic squares did NOT hold after a few days. We were re-hanging the garland 1-2x/week. Does GeckoTech make anything for brick?! Or any other ideas?!
Thanks!
Anna says
Oh man, I don’t know! I was going to suggest the 3M hooks but then as I read on you said those didn’t work. 🙁 I think if you’re going to hang the garland there every year then it’s probably worth the time to install some brick screws for it to hang from. I’m not aware of any other adhesives that would work, I’m sorry. :/
Anna says
Look what I just randomly found! I think this would totally work for your lights and garland – https://amzn.to/33oXsSN. Let me know if you try it, I’d love to know how it works. 🙂
