Last year I had great intentions for getting priceless first day of school pictures. I don’t remember why I didn’t get around to doing what I wanted to do but on the morning of Malea’s first day of Pre-K I was rushing around trying to think of something cute to do and this was all I got.
A last minute, thrown together picture of her on the couch. I did catch this picture too but never did anything fun with it.
So this year I am determined to get a cute, memorable and priceless picture of her on the first day of school! To get inspired, and to hopefully inspire you too, I put together this round-up of first day of school picture ideas.
I love this idea with the sidewalk chalk. I would probably have to draw it out a couple days before to get it perfect, since I’m not much of a chalk artist. This one from Giggles and Gumballs is adorable!
I think this idea from That’s So Cuegly is one of my favorites. I love the things kids say and I think it would be fun to see how that changes over the years. Her little boys quotes are laugh out loud-able!
This idea from the Happier Homemaker is fun, and cheap! She purchased these letters, for only a few dollars, and then took pictures of her kids with the letter of their grade! Pre-made letters, now THAT’S something I can do!
I was excited when I saw this cute picture from My Favorite Things, because I actually have a few of these chalkboards! This would be a simple and cute way to photograph kids on the first day of school.
I think this idea from Watch out for the Woestmans, is hilarious, and genius! It would be so fun to see how much your kids grow from year to year!
A friend of mine posted this picture of her son on Facebook last year and I loved this idea! I know for most kids their “what they want to be when they grow up” will change every year, but for some it might stay the same. What a great way to document all those great career ideas!
And last but not least I love this idea from Seven Thirty Three! This would be a super cute way to see how much they grow every school year. I know my daughter grew a ton last year, I wish I had seen this sooner!
I think my only problem now is deciding which one to do! Maybe I’ll do them all! 🙂 Which one is your favorite, or do you have another idea? If you have more ideas, I’d love to hear them!
Update: here’s what I decided to go with for Malea’s first day of Kindergarten.

I love your first day of school photos — my kids don’t start until the second week of September! Last year, I used free printables (with their grade printed on them) for my daughters’ first day of school photos. But this year, I’d love to have them draw pictures, etc., for their first day of school and do the sidewalk chalk idea! So cute!

They are all great ideas!! I love the chalk on the sidewalk and the one from That’s So Cuegly. My girls are going to be a Sophomore in college and a Junior in high school. Where have the days gone??
