Choosing a venue for your party is very important. The venue will determine the size of the party, the atmosphere of the party and so much more! When I say “venue” most of you probably think about renting out a large space, but that’s not always the case. The most fabulous parties I’ve ever thrown have been held right in my backyard and living room! Don’t get me wrong, if my budget was unlimited I would love to rent out large, beautiful spaces but you don’t have to rent out a huge space to throw a fabulous party!
I think the most important thing to consider, when choosing a venue, is the potential it has, to be transformed into the space you want to create for your party. When I hosted my Mad Men Theme Party I literally moved most of the furniture in our living room, out to the backyard to create an “office feel”. It totally worked and the party was a huge success!
I’ve also hosted lots of parties right in our living room. I won’t ever allow a lack of funds to keep me from throwing a fabulous party, so I’ve been known to clear all of the furniture out of our small living room, to make if feel larger, and make more room for our guests. I’ve also rearranged furniture and borrowed furniture to transform my own home for a party!
So you definitely want to consider a spaces potential when choosing a venue, but don’t let your small home keep you from throwing a fabulous party! When it comes down to it there are so many ways to transform your own space, sometimes you just have to think outside the box!
Here’s a good example of that. In this picture the person has cleared all the normal decorations off this entryway table to create a food/bar area {I’ve totally done this}.
Here are a few other venue ideas.
#1 Your own backyard
I think you’ll be amazed at how beautiful your own backyard can be with a few twinkle lights and candles!
#2 A gymnastics center
This is an awesome venue for a kids party! We’ve attended many kid’s parties and gyms and Malea always has a BLAST!
#3 A field
How fun would it be to go to a party in a field!? Talk about an easy venue, God has already done all the decorating for you!
#4 A wine tasting room
I’ve thought about hosting a party in a tasting room many times because my in laws own a tasting room. I’m still waiting for the perfect excuse and the perfect theme to come to me…
#5 A barn
I think vintage barns are beautiful. I would love to someday throw a party at one. The wedding I just did for my friend was in a barn and it was absolutely gorgeous!
These are just a handful of ideas for party venues. The most important thing to remember is to make the party YOU! You are planning your fabulous party, so no matter what venue you choose you want it to reflect you. And don’t be afraid to think outside the box, like I said, you’ll be amazed at how you can transform a space with just a few simple decorations {or all the furniture from your living room}. {wink}

I want to help my daughter plan the perfect sweet 16 party, so I appreciate this information on choosing the right venue. I like how you point out that it is important to look at spaces and look at the potential they have to be decorated how you want more than what they look like in the moment you are looking at them. I imagine that finding a place that has employees who are willing to help you make the venue look how you want it would also be a good idea.
