I’ll be honest, I probably only mop about once a month. It’s hard to find time to mop the floors when I have a busy 3 year old running around the house all day! However my floors stay spotless by spending about 30 seconds a day cleaning them. What’s my secret?
Washcloths.

I have a drawer of white washcloths next to my kitchen sink, and every day I pull out a new one. I use the washcloth all day long for wiping down the counters, oven, microwave, etc. At the end of the day I give my floor a once over and if there are any spills, crumbs, etc. then I use the washcloth to wipe them up. After wiping up the floor I rinse it and toss it in my “dirty” basket in the laundry room. This is a great trick for keeping hard floor surfaces clean and spotless with out having to bust out the mop every week! So head out to Target or Wal*Mart, buy yourself a stack of white washcloths for a few dollars and keep your floors looking clean all the time!
{If it’s time to actually clean the wood floors though, here’s how I clean mine.}

Hi Anna!
Thanks for the tip but I was wondering….I’m a clean person but I have small children and a dog, and of course a husband. lol. I use white wash cloths for my kitchen clean-up (haven’t used them on my floors the way you suggest) and they end up looking awful right away. I have washed them in hot water and bleach. I’ve even soaked them in my kitchen sink in hot water and bleach for a couple of hours and they still look terrible. What do you do? Are your white cloths still white after all that? Even when I know they are washed I get grossed out to pull them out of my towel drawer and start using them in the kitchen. What’s the solution?

I bleach mine pretty regularly but I only use them for about a year.

Use microfiber cleaning rags. They work a lot better than regular rags as far as picking up stuff. And as far as the rags being white… i do not buy white rags anymore for this reason. I buy colored or black cleaning rags. You can try soaking your white rags in peroxide and dawn in the mop bucket. Or try to bleach again. Make it a little stronger than usual in your mop bucket and just let them sit. Like for a day. I do this when my mop needs some serious cleaning and it comes out sparkling white.
