You all know by now that my home is well organized and a reflection of me. But I have a secret; there is one room in my house that is completely untouched. It’s our spare bathroom. It’s only used by my daughter because our guests use the master bathroom that’s right off the laundry room {I know it’s a weird set up but it’s an old house, what can I say?} We’ve been in our house for almost 2 years and I still haven’t done anything with it! Can you believe it?
So when Apartment Guide emailed me and asked me if I had a room I could organize, and share my tips with their readers, I jumped at the opportunity! Not only did they offer me a gift card to help me organize and decorate my space, but they also have so many great articles about organizing, on Moving Today and the Apartment Guide blog, to help me with the process! I always love to read others organizing tips so I figured I’d check them out!
Welcome to our spare bathroom.
It’s currently decorated with stuff from our previous house, that totally doesn’t fit the personality of this house. Every time I’m in this bathroom it makes me crazy! Not to mention it’s got off-white boring walls.
The first thing I had to decide was how I wanted to decorate the bathroom. I found this great article on Moving Today, that helps determine what style you are, and it really helped me narrow down what style to use in this bathroom. I decided on “Cottage Style” because I wanted the bathroom to be warm and welcoming but also fresh and clean.
Next I had to decide how I was going to organize the space. I found this great article on Moving Today that shares my love for thinking outside the “plastic box” when it comes to getting organized. Because I have lots of shelf space in this bathroom I decided to use decorative woven baskets to store items. The article also suggests shopping at “unexpected stores” which gave me a great idea! We recently had a Goodwill Store open up in town so I headed down there to see what kind of hidden treasures I could find.
I also found a great article on Apartment Guide blog with lots of bathroom organization ideas. As you can see, this bathroom needs help! Don’t you just love this terrible waste of space? I have a basket, that is only holding a sponge, pilled on top of another basket… and a candle stick? What is going on down there!?
Here’s another great shot. When you close the door and sit down on the toilet this is the view. Yep, a blank wall. Hardly my best design work. Like I said this bathroom needs help!
With the design and organization inspiration I had collected from Apartment Guide and Moving TodayI got to work on creating a design board.
Now that I’ve collected all my inspiration I’m excited to get to work! You’ll have to come back next week to see the final reveal!
And here’s an extra bonus! Apartment Guide wants to help you get organized too! They are giving one lucky reader a $50 Container Store gift card! Good luck!!!
