As you know I love to find products that can be used for multiple purposes. I love my Arm & Hammer toothpaste and since I use baking soda paste (baking soda and water) for so many things around the house, I thought I’d use the toothpaste instead!
The first thing that came to mind was my glass stove top. Unfortunately for me I’m stuck with an electric stove while we live in this house, but one thing I do like about it is that it’s so much easier to keep clean than a gas range. However if you have an electric stove top you’ve probably noticed that it can get little burn marks on the glass that are next to impossible to remove. I have a special glass cleaning product that I use to clean them off but it stinks, it’s expensive and I kind of hate using it. Arm & Hammer Advanced White Brilliant Sparkle Toothpaste boasts that it “cleans deep down and safely polishes for whiter & brighter teeth” so I thought I’d put this to the test on my burn marks as well. I knew one thing was for sure that I’d enjoy the smell of the Arm & Hammer Advanced White Brilliant Sparkle Toothpaste more than I do the glass cleaner!
Here are a few pictures of the burnt spots on my cook top. It looks like you should be able to just wipe it off but you can’t. Whatever this is (probably water that spilled over and burnt) it has been cooked on there and isn’t coming off easily.

I use a product called Weiman Glass Top Cleaner (bought it at Target). It does not have a strong odor at all. I am extremely sensitive to smells, and I can barely smell it. I use a blue no-scratch scrub sponge and a bit of elbow grease. I guess that I could let it soak for a few minutes like you did with the toothpaste- I'll have to give that a try. When I was in college, we filled in some of the nail holes in the wall with toothpaste right before we moved out.

When I bought my glass cook top, the salesman recommended Weiman Glass Top Cleaner. It works well most of the time, but I have also used tooth paste and been quite satisfied with the results.

I've used toothpaste to clean my rings for years. Since we've moved into a house with all white walls, I've been known to cover up some nail holes with toothpaste as well.

I know someone already mentioned this, but the Mentadent toothepaste that has the two pumps on each side works the best for blemishes. I used to use it in college all the time (poor college student trick). I would pump a little out of each side, mix and let sit on the blemish all night. In the morning, the redness was gone! It worked great!

Neat idea! I use Bar Keepers Friend- LOVE IT for really hard spots. Boiled over milk and sugar yesterday and BKF took it off but I did have to scrub. I'll try the toothpaste next time!

We use regular baking soda, or vinegar. When I was in HS, I used to put toothpaste on a pimple before bed and it would be dried up by the morning. It actually worked!runningmatey at hotmail dot com

My boyfriend and I just moved in to a new house not too long ago and the glasstop has had stains on it since we moved in, hoping this works to clean it. I did baking soda and a water mixture and I'm gonna let it sit for a couple minutes. Okay, I let it sit for 10 minutes and not even one stain came off 🙁 I think it's been on there for so long that it'll never come off which sucks!

Hello Anna,
Just a brief note to let you know that any toothpaste will do. In my case Zendium.
On visiting my bachelor son’s condo recently I noticed his glass cooker was in a sorry state, so while he and his dad got on with some DIY stuff I started tackling his cooker. I knew of old that toothpaste can get to grips with stains that cooker cleaners leave behind, so off I went to the bathroom for toothpaste. It worked a treat and the kitchen was left smelling devine. However I still use the reguar cleaner and reach for toothpaste ONLY when stubborn stains do not respond.

I dont have to go to all that trouble. Jusst spray vodka and wipe it off. Buff is in the vodka i think. If you have stubborn spots a little baking soda with the vodka and let it sit a couple of minutes. But you wont need much and notl very often

Hi Anna,
I really enjoy your posts! My roommates and I have been discovering all sorts of uses for cleaning with baking soda and this is one of our favorites! Our house has a white glass stove top and it is nearly impossible to cook on it without leaving burn marks. We keep a box of baking soda near by with a long baby spoon in it for easy access. Once the stove has cooked and been wiped clean. We sprinkle on the baking soda, Then spray it with water or white vinegar, whichever is available, and with minimal effort rub away the marks! It even seems better than the expensive cleaner!
Another tip for baking soda toothpaste…. Thanks to my 2 year old son & the internet, I found out it will also remove black permanent marker from sealed hardwood floors! 😀 Damp cloth + baking soda toothpaste + elbow grease + rinse with clean damp cloth. It was like magic!

I just bought a new stove and my son put a plastic grocery bag on top and at the same time he accidentally bumped the knob and turned the burner on. Before I knew it the bag was melted on the stovetop. I didn’t want to scratch the stovetop scraping the plastic off and I instantly thought of baking powder but didn’t know what to mix it with. I decided to try some coke (cola) . I made a running paste but it where the plastic was, went over it with a sponge and presto, my stove looked brand new again!
