Malea’s bedroom is finally finished! I know I’ve already shared the initial makeover, the tutorial for her floating bookshelves and her hanging art gallery but now it is officially done! I really wanted to do a feature wall in her room but I couldn’t decide between chevron stripes or polka dots. I put it up for a vote on my Facebook page and all of you, except for maybe 2 or 3, said POLKA DOTS! So today I’m showing you her finished room and the polka dot bedroom wall I created to give her room some pizazz!
I knew I wanted the polka dots to be gold so I ordered a roll of gold metallic vinyl from My Vinyl Direct. Once it came I used my Silhouette to cut dots, about 1.75″ in diameter.
Then the next challenge was figuring out the best way to put them on the wall. I started by measuring how far I wanted the dots from each other, and from the walls on both sides and then I used those measurements to determine how far apart they needed to be spaced. Then I took a level and marked the measurements on the level.
Next I held the level up to the wall and placed one of the dots at each of the markings on the level. I don’t have a picture of this step because my husband was busy and I couldn’t hold the level, the dots and manage to take a picture at the same time. 🙂 It was a very tedious process, and took me about 2 hours to complete, but it was totally worth it.
I absolutely love the way the wall turned out, it’s even better than I had imagined! The best part is that the vinyl took on the texture of the wall so the dots actually look like they are painted on, instead of just stuck on the wall.
I also like how they coordinate so well with this piece of artwork we had painted for her when she was a baby. It wasn’t planned but it turned out that the gold on the painting is pretty much the same color as the vinyl! I love it when stuff like that happens. 🙂
What do you think of the polka dots? Were you one of the ones that voted for the polka dot wall, or would you have voted for a chevron patterned wall?

I love your polka dot wall — it looks like your Silhouette is very useful! I am in the process of decorating and designing both of my daughters’ rooms. I bet they would love polka dot walls!
