A couple months ago I received this closet organization problem from one of my readers:
Do you have any good ideas on how to organize sweaters? I don’t like to hang them up because they lose their shape and they aren’t in a drawer because I don’t have the closet space. I currently have them folded in a box, but they always end up in piles all over the place, and wrinkled. I live in a tiny apartment and my husband and I share a dresser, which means only two drawers each! I also don’t have any shelf space, it’s taken up by my craft supplies. Just wondering if you had any DIY, out of the box, ideas.“
Out of the box ideas? I sure love a good challenge, especially when it comes to closet organization and organizing in a small space! At first I wasn’t sure if I would be able to come up with a good storage space solution for this problem, because with no dresser space and no shelving space, there weren’t a lot of options.
And then it came to me, what about a hanging shoe organizer!? It’s the perfect solution because it can hang in a bedroom closet, on the closet-rod, or on the back of a door! It doesn’t require much space, and it has perfect little cubbies for each sweater.
There are lot of different sizes of shoe organizers but these are the two that I think would do the trick to get that pile of sweaters off the floor.
This hanging shoe organizer is great for someone like me, that doesn’t have a lot of sweaters. (And I just so happened to have one laying around!) You can find similar ones on Amazon, like this one.
This is such a simple solution for organizing sweaters, sweatshirts, jeans, etc. It clears up drawer space and shelf space, and gets that pile of clothing off your floor, which makes it a win-win solution for everyone! Woo-hoo!!!
So now the only question is… what will you organize with this simple closet storage tip??? Do you have any other creative space saving storage solutions? If so, we’d love to hear them!

LOVE this. I’ve been wondering what to do w/ the sweaters. I was thinking bins on the shelves…but this might work better. Found you on Ahalogy and am following you now.

Thanks for following Adrienne! 🙂

I love this idea for my two daughters. They have a ton of pullover hooded sweat shirts. They have taken over the closet shelves….but they fall over and end up in a huge pile! Thank you so much for this great idea!

I am trying to sort through years of clothes and decide what to do with them. Like most people I’m super busy so this will take awhile. I need a suggestion on how to store them as I’m going through them so they’re not in a pile on the floor. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you don’t mind spending the money I suggest plastic totes. I like the flat ones that can slide (and hide under the bed), or you can store them in larger ones and put them in the attic or garage. It really all depends on how much space you have. 😉 Let me know if you have any other questions about your big project. 🙂

What is the best way to “roll” sweaters?
Anna says
Fold them in half, long ways (hot dog style, not hamburger), then lay the sleeves on top, then roll the sweater up. Good luck! 🙂
