Wendy here, from Pretty Well Organized, to share some simple tips for how to pack for a trip.
It seems appropriate, given that I am on my first blog conference trip, to share a bit about how I plan (and organize!) outfits for a trip. I travel for my day job routinely–which is much easier (in my opinion) to plan for. I just find it very easy to throw some suits in a suitcase and carry on.
Dressing casually is always harder for me because I don’t travel for pleasure that often! I’m also pregnant…so there’s that hurdle too.
What I mean is… I’m also pregnant!!!!
Since my outfit options are so limited these days, I have been on a full blown accessories binge, trying to create cuter outfits with some very simple basic maternity items.
#1 The first thing I recommend doing before packing is starting with all your clothes clean! That way you have as many options as possible to pick from.
#2 Next I lay out my basic outfit–top and pants, or dress, whichever I’m feeling. Then I add any jackets/coats, and then shoes, and lastly jewelry.
I lay it all on my bed, like this:
#3 After I set out a full outfit, clothes to jewels, I set my jewelry aside on the dresser, and move the clothing and shoes to my suitcase. I repeat this process, one outfit at a time, until I have enough outfits for each day, plus one extra {especially being pregnant, I find I am more prone to spilling something).
#4 Next I pack my jewelry. I use this great jewelry roll from Stella & Dot to line up all my jewelry. Jewelry, no matter how expensive or inexpensive, should always go in your carry on. Can you imagine losing all your favorite items? Eek!
#5 Last but not least I add toiletries to my suitcase, zip it up and ta-da! Now I’m ready to go!!!
What packing tips do you have? Special tips or tricks to make the process easier?

Thank you for this tip! I’ve always packed by laying out my outfits, but before reading your post, I had never laid out my shoes and jewelry with everything. I had to fly to Tennessee suddenly, shortly after reading this, and figured I’d trying adding my shoes and jewelry. It actually helped streamline my packing, as I was able to see what shoes and earrings might work with multiple outfits instead of just one. So thank you! For the first time, I actually wore everything I brought on my trip because I had packed more efficiently.
This is great! I will do this when I pack for Austin in less than two months! A tip I have for jeans, pants, and shorts is to roll them! It’s saves you space and you can pack more options. Thank you!
