Question:
“Do you coupon? How do you organize your coupons? I’m not hard core into it, but I need an easy, preferably DIY organization solution, preferably small enough to tuck into a (large) purse. I have found that the small, accordion-style organizers lack enough pockets and I’m definitely not going the binder route! Any suggestions?”
Answer:
Unfortunately I do not coupon, at least not yet. I always cut coupons out of the paper and then forget them at home. If I do happen to remember to bring them to the store with me then I forget to use them!!! I might be hopeless. {Maybe when I’m not distracted by a 2 year old I’ll get better!}
However my best friend coupons so I turned to her to answer this question. Here’s what Heather had to say:
I had the same problem–I wanted to find a way to organize my coupons but didn’t want a binder to carry around while shopping.
I looked at accordion folders, but they were just too big. I finally found the perfect thing–a 3 x5 index card holder. I initially thought it might be too small, but all of my coupons fit just fine in it.
It has enough dividers that I can separate out my coupons into six categories. I actually only use five: toiletries for my husband, toiletries for me, household products (laundry detergent, cleaning products, etc.), food and restaurants. These categories keep me organized and I don’t have a problem finding the coupons I want to use.
One tip, though–as you are shopping, pull out the coupons you know you are going to use as you put the products into the cart. This makes the checking out process much quicker. If you are looking for a coupon holder with more dividers, check out the 13-pocket holder on Amazon.com. Its dimensions are a little bigger, but should still fit in a large purse.
I LOVE coupons! I started couponing three years ago. Lately I'm not so "obsessed" like before! But usually I don't go to the mall if I don't have coupons!! Here is how I organize them: http://lifeinthethriftylane.blogspot.com/2010/09/how-i-organize-my-coupons.html
