I wish I had seen this link a couple months ago before I made Malea’s cake. 🙂
Today Marcie from Don’t Waste Your Homemaking is here to show you how to make fondant. It’s actually really fun and easy, I think it would be super fun to make this with your kids! Enjoy her post!
If you like to decorate cakes or cookies using fondant you need to make it homemade, It’s a little time consuming but it’s a lot cheaper than purchasing it. I tried many recipes when I first began but this is my favorite!
What you Need:
6 oz. bag mini marshmallows
3 TBSP water
2 lbs. powdered sugar
Wooden Spoon
Mixer {stand up is easier}
Icing Colors {I recommend Wilton}
Crisco
What you Need:

Crisco
Place your marshmallows into a greased microwaveable dish and add water. Microwave in 30 second intervals until melted. Each 30 seconds stir the marshmallow goo.
Step 2
Once the marshmallows are completely melted place them in your mixer along with your powdered sugar {keep 1/4 of your sugar for later}. Grease your mixer attachments.
Beat until soft dough forms.
Step 3
Once a soft dough forms place the dough on the reserved sugar and knead. Crisco your hands so the dough doesn’t stick to your hands. Knead approximately 5 minutes. Sometimes it’s easier to break it into smaller pieces instead of just one huge piece.
Once your kneading is done you can color your fondant!
Simply place icing color onto your dough and knead until the color is the way you want.
Keep kneading {this part takes a while} so you can get an even color.
Can this fondant be made in advance? If so, what would be the best way to store it? The cake you posted for you daughter's birthday was beautiful! Loved the design!
Great idea and recipe! I may just have to try it! I took a cake decorating class ten years ago but it was all the icing decorating – which I'm decent at. I have not attempted fondant yet!Beck B.www.organizingmadefun.comOrganizing Made Fun
@Courtney- Yes it can be made in advance. I made mine about 5 days in advance but you have to make sure it's in an air tight container otherwise it will dry out. I wrapped mine in saran wrap and then put it in a tupperware. Make sure when you are rolling it out that what you aren't using stays in the saran wrap because it dries out pretty quickly. Anna
About how much fondant does this make?
