Teal Dresser Makeover

My mother-in-law gave me this dresser a couple years ago and I have been dying to paint it but I couldn’t decide on the perfect color.  The dresser was scratched up and missing a pull but other than that it was in really good condition.

I was recently at a home show when I fell in love with this paint color and I knew it was “the one”.  It’s Destin Gulf Green by CeCe Caldwell’s Paints.  Isn’t it beautiful?

Excited that I had finally found paint for the dresser, I came home and that day painted it!  I started by taking all the drawers out and filling in one of the 2 holes, where the original pulls had been.

Then I started painting.  What a difference a coat of paint can make!

First I painted the frame of the dresser and then I painted all the drawers.

After the chalk paint dried I painted on a coat of water-based polyurethane to give the dresser a little shine. Then I added these beautiful pulls that I purchased from the Liz Marie Etsy shop.  This picture doesn’t even do them justice, they are so pretty and sparkly in person!

On the 2 top drawers I also added metal decals that I found at the home show.  I taped them on with 3M heavy duty mounting tape in case I change my mind and want to take them off later.  In this close up you can see one of the things I love about the polyurethane coat.  I put it on when the chalk paint wasn’t all the way dry so its dark in some areas and lighter in others.  It reminds me of the ocean.

Here is the finished dresser.

I love how bright and colorful it is!  I also love that the crystal pulls give it a very elegant look.

I think it’s the perfect pop of color in our gray and white living room!

It coordinates perfectly with the painting across the room.

What do you think of the dresser makeover? Do you like the color?

Very chic! I love pops of color in rooms that are painted neutral. Especially blue or greens–my favorite :)

That looks beautiful in your living room! I’m looking for old pulls like the ones you took off – LOL!

But the new ones look fantastic with that paint.

Do you want the old pulls? I think I saved them. I’m just going to toss them or garage sale them so you are more than welcome to have them! Shoot me an email if you want them and I’ll get them mailed out to you!

What a difference the color makes! Of course any new finish would be an improvement over the scratches, etc. but your choice really adds a nice pop. Love those pulls! I’ve been looking for some like that but haven’t seen any clear. Course I don’t get out much to look so I can’t complain too much. Anyway, it’s beautiful!

Tanks for all you inspiration. I cant begin to tell you how many tips of yours i have used about the house! But this one I have to ask. Why didn’t you prime and use a roller? I haven’t used the chalk paint my self. i am a glossy girl and don’t care for the chalk paint texture or brush stokes showing. So like the fact you did use a Polly. I would love that it would be smooth. Just concerned about the paint not adhering when rubbed or slid across. Wish my walls weren’t already blue or I would be out the door to get that color!
Thanks for sharing! Looking forward to your next project. So wish I had more time myself.

Gorgeous! Really beautiful colour and it looks stunning in your living room. I loved the old pulls too but those sparkly knobs are so pretty and look great against that colour. I will have to keep watching Craigslist now – that dresser would look perfect in my dining room!

Hi Ann! It does look amazing. I love the colour. It just pops out in your living room but still looks so tastefully decorative. Thanks for including the type of paint you used. Th crystal pulls really finish the look. I wanted to ask what you used to paint… brush or roller or other?

Thank you! I used a brush for this dresser. Usually I use a roller on furniture but I like the way it turned out, even though you can see some of the brush strokes. :)

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the color! Great job! How different was it using chalk paint vs. regular paint?

Beautiful! Did you not have to prime it first? If not…that makes me love it even more!

I love it!!! I just bought the same color for an old wooden rocking chair of my grandma’s that was left to me:) Its one of my fav colors anyways!!!!

Ooo, that will look awesome! I have a kids rocking chair and I’ve been wanting to paint it, maybe I’ll have to steal your idea! :)

I painted a desk two weeks ago for my daughter almost the same color. I did not buy the Annie Sloan wax and wonder if you think I can use a regular poly wax on it.

I’m currently moving into a new rental and I want to change everything about the way my house will look. We painted the walls a light grey and have white trim. My couch is leather and I just bought an old dresser to use as an entertainment center type deal and painted it a tealish color…now I have an old end table and I want to paint it too….would it be too much to paint them both the same color? I’m lost at this stuff. I know what looks good..when I see it anyways.. maybe you can help?

I wouldn’t paint them the same color, I think that would be too much teal. I would suggest maybe staining the side table.
