DIY Ombre Word Decor

Hey!  It’s Kim here.  Today I’ve got an easy DIY decor project that anybody can pull off – even those of you who claim to be “not crafty”:

  Ombre Word Decor.

Incorporating letters, words, and numbers into home decor is a hot trend right now that I love!  Ombre also happens to be pretty popular, so it made perfect sense to combine the two.  What resulted was a super cool EAT sign.

Supplies Needed:
-paper mache letters (can likely be found at your local craft store)
-acrylic paint (base color + white or ivory)
-a paint brush
-something to mix your paint in

Once you’ve got your supplies, start mixing the colors.  Be sure you have enough paint to cover the entire letter so you won’t have to worry about mixing more and trying to recreate the tint.  Trust me, it’s not easy!  Just start with your base color, paint that letter first and then you will know about how much paint the others will need. I used foilage green for the E.  For the A, I mixed light ivory into the green and for the T, I started out with the ivory and then mixed in a little green.

The next step is the fun part!  Transform those letters into something that will make you smile each time you look at them.  Paint away then allow to dry!  I thought one coat was just right and didn’t worry about covering them perfectly.  As you can see above, the letters themselves have some imperfections.  So a raw edge here and there just adds to their character!

A half an hour from start to finish and you have yourself some fresh eye candy.
